Fever on Taxotere and Cytoxan

I had my 3rd treatment on the 21st and for the past few days I have a fever of 100.3 to 100.9 and I feel like crap. Is this normal? Do people get fevers alot from Chemo? I had fevers with my 1st Chemo too. I don't like the the Dr.s here in town and I live in an isolated part of Alaska and will not go to the ER unless it is very serious. They say go when temp is 100.4 but I am waiting before I go see these Dr. I don't like. I fly to Anchorage for my treatments. I like my Dr.s in Anchorage.

Anyone on just Taxotere and Cytoxan?

I had my second TC yesterday and after a few minnutes I had stomach pain, then my back hurt and I turned bright  red from my chest up and had a hard time breathing. They turned the Taxatore off right away and gave me something in the I.V. and after about a half hour or 45 mins they started it up again and it was O.K. Boy was that scary. The Dr. gave me the purple pill for acid reflux this time and boy what a difference. She also changed my pain meds to Oxycodone instead of Vicodine because the Vicodine didn't work so good first ime for the pain that settles in on day 5 or 6. It is from the WBC shot I get the day after. My RBC is very low and she gave me Iron pills for that and if it gets worse she will give me a shot next time for that. Hope everyone is doing O.K. I am now half way done. Only 2 more and then 6 weeks of Radiation.I live in Alaska and my parents are sending me plane tickets to spend a month in Myrtle Beach S.C this winter and that is what is keeping me going. My sister lives there and my parents stay there winters so we are going to have a wonderful time together.

My head hurts!

II Did IT!!! My girlfriend was on the phone with me and I told her I was afraid to take a shower today and after I got off the phone I went in and it happened. Clumps of hair all over. I had to use paper towels so I didn't clog the drain. She came right over and I now have the Demi Moore cut and I look so dam cute. I LOVE IT!!!!! It probably will be bald by the end of the week though because it is really falling out good. But for now I look Cute and Sexy. DH likes it too. DD hasn't seen it yet and I know she is not too happy I'm losing it at all. She was 5 when my MIL went through this and she would not go in the same room with MIL it scared her that Grandma had no hair. She is now almost 17 and can handle things better. I feel so much better. I cried in the shower from the shock but now I'm O.K. with it.

Military Cancer Care

My husband is AD Coast Guard and we are Tricare Prime Remote. We live in Valdez Alaska and all my treatments are done in Anchorage. I  have NO complants about the Military or the Insurance. They fly me to every Appointment, pay for car rental , food and now we are staying in a Hero's Home on Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage for all my treatments and this is Sponsered by the YMCA. I am so Greatful for everyone I have to deal with. They are all Wonderful. I get my Chemo at The Providence Cancer Center and will do the same for my Radiation in the fall.  I will stay in the Hero's House for 7 weeks in the fall. I don't know what I would do without the YMCA and the Hero Home. From the day they found I had something on my Mamo till the day they removed the Cancer it was only 3 weeks. The paperwork went through quick, they have my husband go to all my appointments and I have lots of support.

Texasmom, my husband is in the Coast Guard and we are stationed here until next year. During my treatments I have a Hero's Home to stay in at Elmendorf A.F.B. in Anchorage. I am very lucky for the YMCA because they are the sponsers of this Wonderful idea to have these Homes available to injured Soldiers for their families who are getting medical help. I have the house set up for every one of my treatments  and my 7 weeks of Radiation.  My husband is going to Chiefs Academy in Aug. Sept. and I may have to start Radiation on my own but would prefer not to do anything alone. I will if I have to though. I have met 2 people in Anchorage so I do have someone that can look in on me from time to time.

I have an appointment with my On. Dr. on the 30th and I am abolutley going to ask about a stronger acid reflux med. for next time. I don't have a Gallbladder so I already have lots of problems in that dept. I'm sure she will give me something stronger.  Thanks for reminding me to put that on top of my list of stuff to ask.

Anyone starting chemo in June 08

Texasmom, I never did get a call on Sunday and when I went to get blood done in Anchorage they let me talk to a nurse or NP and she said it didn't sound like the kind of bone pain I would usually get and that if it happened again I was to go right to the ER. I live in a small town 300 miles from a city and we only have 2 DR for 4,000 people. I don't really like either Dr. but if I have a problem I am hoping they will be able to get to talk to my Oncoligist and she will make all the decissions. I hate living here right now. I fly to Anchorage at the end of the month for my next Chemo.

We have no Malls, no fast food, no movies, only one grocery store and in the summer if you don't buy milk and bread by late noon you have to wait till next day when the truck comes to town. The tourist are all over town today because there is a cruise ship in town for 8 hours today.

It is BEAUTIFUL here but I miss my Walmart!!!!

Hi Ladies, sorry it's taken me so long to write about my Anchorage trip to the Dr. I was not real happy with the Oncoligist office. I had my bloodwork done and everything is good except my RBC is low but they say they expect that. It is O.K. I also told them about the Terrible Throbbing Pains in my bones and the nurse that I talked to said it didn't sound like the bone pain and that I should have gone to the Hospital because they pain should be evaluated. She said it could be my heart. Next time she said go to the ER. I get to see my Dr. Oncoligist on the 30th and I hope she will look into it. I woke up on Monday and it was gone.

I also saw my surgeon. He is Wonderful byt is moving to the lower 48 this month. I will miss him. He said it sounded like the bome pains and that sometimes with each dose of Chemo the SE might get worse. He says he hope not though. He says I will have to have a Mamo after 6 months for a baseline. I don't know how they will do it unless all the pain goes away. He says they will allow me to heal after my 6 weeks of Radiation. Once I get through this 12 weeks of Chemo I am thinking Radiation is going to be like a vacation.

Otter, we called the Oncoligist at 12 noon and it is now 9 p.m. and still no call. I guess they expect you just to go to the ER on week-ends. I have been taking Vicodin but it only last 4 and a half hours and when I take it at the 6 hour mark it takes 2 hours to feel any difference. So I am in terrible THROBBING pain for about 3 hours. I felt so bad because my Mom called today from Connecticut and I forgot it was Father's Day. My Dad got on the phone and I burst into tears. I was in so much pain I didn't even want to talk to my parents who I love so much and don't want them to know how much pain I'm in. I hope I get some answers in Anchorage tomorrow. I lost it on my husband today because I can't drive and hurt so bad I don't know how I will get through tomorrow. He called and he has a Coast Guard Chief meeting me at the airport and he will be my driver to both my appointment s.

Otter, yes my first TC was on Monday and I did get the shot on Tuesday. I had pains like the real bad flu on Friday but today it almost feels like my vains are throbbing and it is in my spine. Well, I will write tomorrow and tell you how I make out.

It is coming up on 6 hours since my last Vicodin and I need another. It is a throbbing pain in my spine and arms and legs too. I fly to Anchorage tomorrow for blood work and to see my surgeon so hopefully I will get some answers. I hope this is all normal. I worry I have something go wrong here and I don't want to go to the ER. I would think my DR. here would call the Oncoligist right? I want the Oncoligist treating me not the MD's here.

OH my goodness, I am having the worst throbbing pain in my arms and it goes down my spine. It  started at 5 a.m. and it is Sunday morning.  I got up and took a Vicodin with a bowl of cereal. Has anyone had this throbbing pain? Could I be having a heart attack or is this part of the treatment SE?  I live in a small town and don't like either DR. here. I hope this Vicodin kicks in soon. This is Scary. How do I know what is normal? Yesterday I had such a great day and now today this. Does anyone know if throbbing pain in the arms and back normal?

Anyone starting chemo in June 08

I started TC on Monday and this is how my first  week went:

Day 1-n They had to stick me 4 times to get a vain. The Chemo going in did not bother me at all. Had the hick-ups at least 30 times. VERY tired.

Day 2- Had hick-ups and start of acid reflux Very tired.

Day 3- VERY BAD acid reflux was told I could take Pepcid Complete 3xa day

Day 4- Aches and tired. Flight home to Valdez was only 40 mins but it seemed like 4 hours.

Day 5- Bone Pain, felt like the worst flu of my life, I took Vicodin after tylenol or Avil didn't work. I stayed in bed all day. I cryed I hurt so bad.

Today- what a difference, I am alittle achey but have my energy back. I cleaned the kitchen.

I hope I don't get anymore SE. I have to fly to Anchorage on Monday to get bloodwork done and see my Surgeon. I hope I already had my bad day.

I am so much more relaxed now that I know this is doable. It is the unknown that was the worst.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Has anyone had real bad acid reflux? I had my first T&C on Monday and the acid reflux is so bad. I am so glad I'm not sick to my stomach though. I called the Dr. to see if I could take something stronger than Pepcid AC. Today I have the bone aches. I fly home at 5:30 and can't wait to get home and see me kids and go to bed early and sleep all night long I hope. I almost want to take a Vicodin so these pains don't keep waking me. How bad is the pain supposed to be before you take the hard stuff instead of Tylenol?  I guess this is all doable. It is nothing I can't handle so far but hope it gets better.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Yes Otter, I did start on the 9th. As My husband says to me I have Chemo brain right now. I can't think straight. It's from the Stroids I think. I feel wonderful except these hick-ups and alittle fatiuge I went up to take a shower and came downstairs 2 hours later after taking a nap in my nice comfy bed. I just want to sleep for a while. Those are good side effects if you ask me. I love this site and decided to read lots before joining and after my first Chemo. Thank You everyone for being here so we can support each other.

Nipple Pain??

I had a Lumpectomy on April 21 for Intrusive Ductal Carsanoma. I now have pain when I touch the nipple and the surounding breast. The Dr. thinks it is a hemtoma (broken blood vessels under the skin that are very painful. Has anyone ever had this??The Dr. said it takes a while for the pain to go away. He also put me on a Antibotic just in case it could be an infection. Anyone have sensitive hurt nipples after surgery? It was kinda sore before surgery too. I kinda avoided touching it but now it HURTS bad. Any suggestions from anyone??

surgery is for real now.............

I found out just after Easter this year I have Intrusive Ductal Carsanoma. It is cancer in a milk duct (it was actually in the tube that carries the milk to the nipple). I had surgery on April 21. I had a Lumpectomy. I too never felt a lump and none of the Dr. could either. I had a Mamo 10 months ago and nothing was there but I found a bloody discharge on my nightgown and went to the Dr. I live in Alaska and only have 2 MD's here in town and have to fly to Anchorage for any Specialists appointments. I went and a Radioligist studied my Mamo and found a very small tumor. I went the next morning to see a surgeon and within a week I had a Lumpectomy. The surgery was not bad. I only took pain meds for 3 days but was still sore I just took it easy. I now am waiting for results from my Hormone test to see what treatments I will have to go through. I know I have to do 4-6 weeks of Radiation in which time my husband and I will have to live in Anchorage because they are everyday. I know how scared you feel but just think it is caught early if they can't feel a lump yet. I will Pray you get the comfort I did from all my friends and family. Good luck and think Positive!!!!
