20 years old and scaredHi, I am sorry you are so scared. Just hang in there. I'm praying you will have good news. I certainly remember that feeling and am experiencing that myself again, as I just discovered a new lump under my lumpectomy scar. I also have a strong history of breast cancer in my family, but I was not diagnosed until I was 44. My mom was diagnosed when she was 54. I have read a study that suggests the children should start testing 10-15 yrs younger than the mother was diagnosed. That makes sense in my case, but I have 3 sisters who have been diagnosed at varous times with non-cancerous cysts and tumers. I am the only who has had cancer. A lump does not always mean cancer, even if you have a family history. You are in my prayers!! Please let us know what happens.!! |

Scared of breast cancer recurrence.Hi, I had a lumpectomy for stage I breast cancer followed by chemo and radiation over 5 yrs ago. Approx 3 weeks ago, I began to experience minor itching on the same breast and now my armpit is kind of itchy. There is no pain or rash. Then, 3 days ago I discovered a pea sized lump under my lumpectomy scar. It feels the same as before, however, I don't remember my breast being itchy, but that doesn't mean it wasn't. I have a doctor's appt on Tuesday at 8:30 am to start it all over again. My mom passed on in 2000 after a recurrence of breast cancer that also had spread to her liver, lungs, etc..., but she did not have chemo or rad. I did, but apparently it did not help. I know that my mom did not tell anyone or immediately seek a doctor when she first discovered her lump. She waited until it was huge and painful. I perform regular checks on my breasts and both lumps came as a shock and surprise at how fast they appeared. The first one appeared just 3 weeks after my yearly mammogram. It felt bigger than the new one, but it was also deeper. I am really nervous and scared that I did not find this one in time and it has spread. I need some good news!!! Anyone else out there with similar experience? |
