Pending Duct Excision.....PLEASE HELP

Ok the first procedure is a ductogram, totally useless in my situation and very rarely helpful.I had a duct excision and they removed one duct, the one that had the blood in it.The other ducts where left alone...until.

I found out it was cancer, then they did a lumpectomy and then my breast became not so pleasing looking.I have a huge dent and my nipple is all wonky LOL

But if the discharge has stopped then maybe its nothing.Good vibes :) BTW after my duct excision I lost sensation.

Radiotherapy standing or lying down?

I had right sided radiation. The "forks of lead" in the machine protected my vital organs.I saw on the x ray how much of my lung would be hit.It was less than 2 cms and was explained that the lung that would NOT be hit comprises of 98% of lung...so less than 2 percent.

I had 3 week radiation, IMRT.

Waiting

Well they do call it a cancer center cause thats what it is.That said I had bleeding from my nipple and it took me months and months to be diagnosed.I never had blood taken to see if it was an infection I find that a very odd and very not neccesary step in my opinion. As a matter of fact it is very unlikely it would be an infection...

That said, I was told it could be a papilomma (a small "wart" in the duct). hardening of the ducts (very unlikely in someone my age 32). or cancer. They say 80% of the time it is NOT cancer, then again that is talk about a lump and not discharge.

You could have a mammogram, a ductal proble, an ultrasound.I had an excision and mine was cancer.TRY not to freak out...it could really be anything.

BTW I had stage 1, grade 2 BC and mine was 1.7 MM's.I had a lumpectomy and radiation and I am FINE.I have been told that with discharge if it is cancer it is usually smaller.

You will be FINE either way..:)

Mam, US result and Rant about waiting

FYI My cancer symptom was a bloody nipple, HUGE RED FLAG.There is no way someone should have to wait from June until October for that mammogram. They say 80% of the time its not cancer.I say lots of times it is.

Mam, US result and Rant about waiting

Super post. But I was not talking about the US system.I didn't even mention it actually. But if I had the money I for sure would have gone to the one day diagnostic clinic while I was on vacation in tennessee. In hindsight I would have had my father wire me the money. What happened to me and countless other people where I am is NOT excusable.

Partially it has to do with my age.My 60 yr old mother was rushed in to get a diagnostic mammogram and I had to wait.Hers turned out to be a begnign condition.

Hate your Dr? Too bad.We are in an understaffed province and area and so even if I hated him I could not change Drs.You get who you get and thats it.I had to wait for radiation, I am living in pain every single day and cannot get pain meds.

FYI I lived in the states for 2 years and I also know that system.I was VERY lucky my dad had goodinsurance.I had some pretty bad medical problems but the treatment was swift and prompt.I just really hate that people think Canada is this utopia of awesome medical care.If you live in the right place, and know the right people...maybe.

I also do pay for my healthcare, through very high taxes.I also pay for my medication out of pocket.Very true I am LUCKY as heck because I don't get a bill after tests/procedures.I chose to go to buffalo for my MRI, the wait time here was 3 months.Turns out I didn't have the luxury of time.

Am I angry? Yes very.

Mam, US result and Rant about waiting

I am not going to get into this TOO much but I think the canadian health care system is tragically flawed. Please understand not everyone lives in Alberta, where health care is top notch and not everyone can get into princess maragaret or any of those other places in Toronto.I live about 45 minutes away from toronto but because of transportation and waiting issues I was not able to go there.I did get good treatment where I live but it was not top notch.

I had waiting period from 1 week to 3 months for my diagnostic tests and surgeries.I was wait listed more times than you could count. From the day I had bloody discharge until my diagnosis it was 11 months and 14 days. Most of that time was spent waiting for tests and pathology which took thir sweet time.

Anyone can google and see the sad state of health care in ontario.I often think that people that live in toronto live in a bubble. You could not count the number of times I have heard "Well my 80 year old aunt just zipped into princess maragret and got all fixed up" thats nice.Ontario is a HUGE province! the younger you are the less yyou are taken seriously. My 2 cents.

Steroids for pain...My ONLY option?

I really don't understand.I hear SO many people tell me that they get all these RX's and half the time they don't need them.Sorry I just see no need for me to be in pain.

I only have a radiation oncologist right now, I don't have a med onc or I would ask him.

Steroids for pain...My ONLY option?

I went to see the rads onc today for my last appt.I got through rads ok but I am having severe breast pain.He was not willing to RX me anything but steroids.Like prednisone, I almost killed myself when I was on it last time.

So I guess I just get to be in pain :(

Pain and how this was handled, NOT happy

Breast pain, premenstrual

Please see my post about pain. I am premenstrual and they said to basically suck it up,The nerves are regenerating and stuff there so that is WHY it hurts. How to stop it is another question all together.

Pain and how this was handled, NOT happy

So I made it through 16 treatments and now I just have boosts to go.I started having cramping, shooting pains over the weekend,Nerve pain.I cannot stand nerve pain it makes me very cranky.I have not whined or moaned through this entire thing to the Dr or nurse. But I had to say something yesterday. It was keeping me awake.I should sxplain that I am allergic to aspirin, so that means no motrin or advil either.tylenol only.

The nurse brushed me off, she said they never give anything stronger and I could try tylenol 1's that have 8 mg codeine, OTC in canada.Guess what?? Not helping one bit.

I see my Dr tommorow, but she says that he will say to just ride it out? That it will be like this for up to 6 months.I am depressed.

How Common Is This?

I am not sure how common it is,I had an inconclusive result and it did end up being cancer...but try not to worry too much.

too those with or had nipple discharge

What you said was spot on, BUT I will focus on the bloody discharge and YOUNGER patients in their 20's and 30's.My surgeon told me that the discharge has little chance of being ectasia as the ducts harden with age, this is usually seen in older woman.

Papilomma maybe??? Hopefully if you have BND this is what it is.

I have known 5 woman MY age with this and they all had cancer, so something is not right.I had a mammogram, ultrasound, ductogram and an MRI ALL CLEAR.

Turns out I had microscopic cancer :(

I care about you all.I do not know you from anyone on the street.Mine started with having to squeeze it and then started coming out on its own..BIG RED FLAG

A good surgeon can find the duct...and they can take it out.If it is not breast cancer than you can live without one duct.

Please find a surgeon.

You need to go to a different Dr then. The "radiation" from a mammogram may save your life if it is something..trust me.

I don't want to scare people but I was told, it is normal for all tests to come out normal.Bloody discharge, if cancerous is from the duct, so there is no lump perse.

Keep in mind mine was microscopic cancer..only seen under a scope. If I had to do it again, I would get NO tests I would make them take it out.

too those with or had nipple discharge

Not at first...a year previously it was a light yellow..coming from the same place.Then...blood but was strawlike. Then bloody. The duct that the discharge is coming from is where it needs to come out.

Everything was negative.I had microscopic cancer..not able to be picked up with any technology except high powered scopes.

MAKE THEM.Thats all I can say. Please, I don't even know you but if I could prevent one person from going through what I had to do I would.

I told them I was not living with the not knowing and that it had to come out.You MAY very well be fine, but it needs to come out.

I got that 80% are B9....from my oncologist and surgeon. If it is blood, and you are young it is more likely to be cancer. They also did ALL the tests and did not find any cancer until the duct excision.

I am not trying to scare you, but there is a big difference of say a 30 yr old with nipple discharge and a 50 year old having it.A 50 year old would be more likely to have a Duct ectasia...

Trust me,I was misdiagnosed for 11 months...
