depression symptoms before Tamoxifen does it worsen?

I have been on Tamoxifen for a week now and only noticed getting sleepy in the evening and nap after dinner then wake up early about 5 a.m. So I just need to avoid the nap before bedtime (Ha Ha ) Been taking Tamoxifen at night along with a mild sleep aid so my body will metabolize the Tamoxifen and won't be conscious of change. Also I try to eat a light snack like fruit and green tea (decaf of course) or a sweet fruit tea. To avoid upset stomach and not take medicine on an empty stomach. Then I try to keep stimulating activities like computer surfing, reading material that involves thinking too much or TV programs that are interesting.  Just turn on reruns of light comedies, dim the lights because your eyes tell your brain it is getting dark time to sleep.  Realize this might help somebody and I know shift work, stress and kids make it hard to get to sleep but try to take care of yourself..

Tamoxifen - What are my other options?

Progress comes in small steps is the best way I can put it.  I started taking Tamoxifen a week ago and take it at night so when my body is resting the medicine can work being that during the day I have a funny metal taste in my mouth.  Best cure is drinking water to balance that taste.

Big tip for drinking water instead of buying all the bottled water get a filter pitcher or a filter attached to the sink.  The cost of 40 to 80 dollars is worth not tasting Chlorine and that is probably not good for BC anyway and the water does smell.   Drank sink water once during treatment and felt more nauseous,

Next tip;  See your food as medicine (read it somewhere) steaming in the microwave with a glass dish and small amount of water is easy.  There are also steam cook food bags GLAD brand works well.  Makes you GLAD not to have to wash dishes a big boost when you are sick.  Enjoying your vegetables they help your body. enough tips.

Can menopause be induced to avoid taking Tamoxifen?

I have depressive disorder and the thought of being on Tamoxifen for the next 5 years really sucks especially with all the side effects posted on this site.  Maybe someone could tell me if it is possible for my oncologist to prrescribe medicine to get me into menopause and then start me on an aromatase inhibitor which is known to have less of the crappy side-effects Tamoxifen has.  This stupid drug is pushed as the miracle anti-cancer drug but from what I have read on the posts it can make you feel horrible and 5 years is a long time to feel like crap.

Breast Cancer Husband Needs Advice

To give advise is always easier than getting it.  that is what i have to remember but here it goes.  My husband is more of a mechanical thinking fix it guy so when BC diagnoses hit me in July and me being more a more emotionally driven person we too said a lot of things that can't be taken back.  Some of the best advise came from my supervisor and his wife who are in the health care field.  My supervisor in a half hour on the phone explained to me there reason i was angry with my spouse was my inner child was scared.  This sounds soooo psychological.  But guess what he was right.  Fears of abandonment and no one to help are common amongst women dealing with breast cancer.  There is not just the worry of relationships not going well but also the asthetics of what BC does to body image with surgeries, baldness from chemo, facing menopause etc.. You don't have to be an angel.  Just be there for her.  If you like sports go hit some baseballs at the batting cage or target shoot or whatever you do for stress relief you will come back to your partner released of some of your stress and she will get a break from having the stress of having you around wound up from the stress.  That is hard to understand but it is real.  Finally if there are no support groups don't think that men do not talk about how they feel about breast cancer and how it affects them. Some of the caretakers in her team may be able to talk to you.  The breast cancer survivors  group may have a survivor who could at least talk to both of you if you request.  Please don't feel that you are alone.  I felt alone when my diagnosis of BC was delivered but now i am almost through chemo and sending thank you cards to my friends who lent their support.

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?

Hey Harley

I know how you feel about people's insensitivity to breast cancer.  Last week the cashier at the grocery store asked me if I wanted to donate to breast cancer while I was sweating in my wig nauseous from the smells of food, just three days after my third chemo treatment.  It pissed me off and I said I am paying for it with my insurance and am struggling with it right now and no I already wrote my check for the amount!!! She just looked shocked and I said sorry it is painful and she just looked at me with her mouth wide open.  I go lucky as 3 of my friends became my support system and helped me get through some of the roughest spots including 3 surgeries and deciding to do chemotherapy.  My  sister-in-laws were at best polite but never really offered help.  Which shows the best sometimes comes out in some people when the worst happens.  And just remember to have faith this may seem the worst but someday you can look back and see your strength.  Then you can maybe someday return the favor and hug someone who has to go down this long hard road called breast cancer. Sending you a cyber hug!! and a prayer.. hang in there

anybody have angry teenage son ?

My son is 13 going on 14 and he is so hostile.  The last month I was diagnosed with stage 2, 1 lymph node positive, lumpectomy and starting chemotherapy this week.  He just seems so moody compared to when he was in school.  Some days rough.  Would like input on how to get my kid back to normal.  He knows about my diagnosis and all the treatment.

Cannot decide if Chemo ifor me

To Pat Mom

Thanks for the advise in knowing myself and how much I can take.   Chemotherapy is not a breeze like the earlier post stated.  I do want to live longer even if Tamoxafen and radiation are the only things I feel comfortable with.  .  I guess I will get a second opinion on the "odds" and my age. The doctor ordered the oncotype gene test and the risk score was 12 our of 100 so maybe my family tree is not loaded with cancer markers and I am HER-1 negative.  I appreciate your support about wanting to live instead of just surviving because I have survived too much already.

Can removal of an ovary drop estrogen without hormones

I am thinking outside the box as the phrase goes.  Has anyone or their doctor recommended having one ovary removed to cut the estrogen levels that some cancer cells with estrogen receptors thrive on.  The idea behind this would be to avoid hormone therapy, cut estrogen but leave the body intact with enough estrogen to keep some balance????

got diagnosed don't know who is safe to tell about it

Got diagnosed with cancer growth after removal of a calcification.  Still have to go back to my surgeon this week but thank God I opted to remove a cyst that checked out harmless last year.  This year it turned into a calcification with cancer inside. I am reading on the net about how size of tumor determines treatment plan.  I am not sure who to share the news with except my spouse and child (teenage).  My only other family is inlaws on spouses side but they are more into gossiping about family members illnesses and I already have a hard time dealing with feeling so scared about unknown.
