well, i did it.....i had the halo test

hello everyone, hope it is a good day for you all....

well,  i went and had the brand new halo-pap test done....all in all not to bad

first let me start by saying this is a brand new screening test but does not replace the mamo...its a good tool for all of us daughters, sisters, aunts, friends and family who have amazing women in lives going through breast cancer and want to help catch it early...

if you have breast fed or used a breast pump, thats what it is like.....for people like me who have not i have gained a TOTALLY NEW RESPECT for those of you who done thatEmbarassed.  they place 2 cups on your boobs for 5 minutes while it extracts breast fluid from you, it pinches kinda of stings and is awkward sitting there holding them on your boobs BUT what a easy thing to do to try to catch bc early....i only wish it was around 10 years ago so perhaps my mom and all of you may have benefited....

they recommend once a year for the halo so im gonna GET MY MAMO IN JAN. & HALO IN JUNE so im actually being tested every 6 months......it cost $100 and insurance doesnt cover it yet... it is common not to have fluid come out (like in my case)...if fluid comes out they lab test it for abnormal breast cells....ask your obgyn....its so new my doc isnt totally sold yet but for a $100 bucks it gave me some peice of mind for now....

thank you to all of you brave women currently battling breast cancer....you pave the way for all women, we learn from you, we are inspired by you, and we love you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Abraxane, Xeloda, & Zometa working 4 my mom :)

hello every1 i hope you are having a good day !!!

my mom had her 3rd round of treatment 2day (cant believe we r already 2 months into this) and her doc said her bloodwork was REMARKABLE :)  wow, that was a nice thing to hear....her alkaline phosphate went from 838 to 595.....her calcium went from 10.6 to a NORMAL 8.5....... and her ca 27/29 tumer marker went from 81 to 45  Laughing ....all indications that her treatment plan was working.....he had to lower her dose of xeloda due to hand/foot to 2000mg but he said in no way does this effect the outcome....fatigue has been her biggest complaint but she is now drinking a diet dr pepper a day and since she normally does not intake caffeine she gets a big burst of energy....whatever works, right?

ps..... my mom is now telling anyone that asks her "is there anything i can do for you or anything that you need" her response is YES, please vote for Obama......lol....im so glad shes getting spunky again Smile

another Xeloda question

hi greta....

my mom had to have her dose of xeloda lowered due to the problems you describe....she was on 2 cycles of 3500mg...the doc gave her 2 weeks off so the side-effects would go away and resumed her at 2000mg a day.....we just started the lower dose so hopefully she will not have such a terrible time....HOWEVER...doc also said that the side effects are a result that it is working !!!!! and her bloodwork confirms that, today we received notice that her alk, cal & tumor marker droped :) all signs that these shi##y drugs are working......im sorry you are having this problem but xeloda is probably kickn cancer butt....ask your doc about lower dosing....xoxoxoxo

These nights are killing me....

i was exactlly the same until my doc gave me "REMERON" for my insomnia....I LUV THAT STUFF...its the only thing that has worked for me....ive tried sonata, xanax, tylenol pm, ambien, wine, etc...lol....it also does not make me tired during the day, it actually gives me energy....i only take 7.5 mg a nite before bed and it knocks me out within 45 minutes....good luck cause sleep is VERY important...xoxoxoxoxo   dana

tumor marker

my moms tumor marker gradually increased but since it still was in "normal" range doc didnt worry to much, however once the alk phos and calcium began to raise he ordered scans because it was multiple things increasing.....talk to your doc, ask questions, go with your gut.....my mom kinda always had a bad feeling about the consistent slight rise in her 27/29 marker but just kept thinking, well its still in "normal" range.....however she was having a recurrence....good luck

taxol is horrid

hey tracy...my mom struggled so much with heartburn and gerd, since her first round of treatment 5 years ago it has always been an issue even though she wasnt on chemo for 5 years....it seems,  like neurathopy,  for her,  it lingers for years after treatment...now on chemo again it has increased....she used "nexium" the first round but is now on " pantoprazole" it is generic so its cheap...it is working for her but it is perscription one you get a better doc or see the senior doc ask for this or something similar....there are meds out there to help you !!!!!!

halo breast screening tool ????

thanks michelle :) mom is "hanging in there" that seems to be our phrase for 2008....

the web site about the halo is

www.neomatrix.com or www.halopap.com

sounds interesting......it is so new that most insurance wont cover it yet but it only cost $100 (at least at my docs office)....it was fda approved...my docs not 100% sold on it but agrees that for women who have a family member with bc it is 1 more tool that could help....

ive been really happy 2 hear your moms doing well.....hugs & kisses 2 you both
