Anyone starting chemo in Aug. 08?

Hey Girls,

Just got back from the surgery.  Expander and port are out and the implants are in!!  Feel okay right now.  I am going to follow the pain meds like I did when I had the mast. in July, so hopefully I will stay on top of it.  They said that is the key.

Bette-how was the cake?!  That is great news about your FL trip.  That will be a nice treat for the both of you.

Corinne-I think this means you only have one TX left.  You will get through this!!!

to the CA girls-I hope you were not affected by any of the fires in the LA area.

November Reconstruction

Hi Girls,

Just got back from surgery for the expander exchange to implants on both sides.  Everything went well.  He took out the port as well, even though I will continue Herceptin through June via an IV.  Pain meds have kicked in, so I am off to the recliner.  My DH is spoiling me!!

Thanks for all of the good wishes.  Linda, you certainly are keeping up with everyone!!  I hope Hood's surgery went just as well.  I can already feel the relief from having the expander removed, not that it was bad.  I guess you get used to it being there since I have had it since July 2nd.

Hope everyone is well!!

~Misty

O.K. Here we go

Beth,

Good luck with everything.  I am in the Columbia, MD area.  I was diagnosed in June, as you can see from the information at the bottom of my post.  You will see very overwhelmed at first.  However, once you know what you need to know and make a decision about treatment(s), you will feel better.

The ladies on this board are wonderful.  You will find lots of support here.

Anyone starting chemo in Aug. 08?

Hey Girls,

Congrats SheRee!!  It's so nice to cross another girl who has finished off the list.  We'll keep cheering everyone until the last chemo is done by all of us.

Bette-tough decision, but I am sure you will deal with it.  I had mine in July and didn't look back after making that decision.  Have a piece of cake for me-I LOVE cake!!

Jeannine, glad you had the fluid drained.  I know that feels so much better.  I had the same situation as you.  I did not get drains at surgery because I bled very little, but something sure did collect in the following days after surgery.

I am off to the exchange surgery tomorrow morning.  Believe it or not, I am actually excited for this surgery.  I hope it closes another chapter of this book.  I'll let everyone know how it goes if i am not too drugged when I get home!!

hood, you are up for your expander surgery tomorrow-good luck!  We'll be in la-la land at the same time.

Jeannine-GREAT NEWS!!  So excited and relieved for you.  Might have to check into those nightgowns, sooner rather than later.  I usually just wear a t-shirt to bed.

Roya, so glad the Taxol is coming to an end.

Bette-Sorry to hear about your fever and hospital stay.  Where is your doctor in Balto?  I am right in the area.  Curious who you are seeing.

I am counting down-four days until I have the exchange done for the implants.  I have lots of books and am looking forward to "parking it" for a few days and being out of work.   Starting to lose some brows.  OH NO!!!  Not what I wanted to have happened seven weeks out of chemo.  Hope they don't all go.  I did the sixth Herceptiin the other day, so now I am 1/3 of the way done-that is so easy compared to the chemo.  Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

Good Morning, Girls,

Stacy and Jeanine-how are you doing one week after surgery?

Corinne, that is great news about getting a new horse.  You are almost there with your TXs!

Roya, only more Taxol-fantastic!!  then, you will be able to recover from the chemo part of your TX.

Gail, how are you doing now that the chemo is over?

Hope everyone is well.  I have started to have the hot flashes at nighttime for the past two weeks.  Awful to wake up so hot and sweaty!!  I am going to ask the onc about this on Thursday when I go for the next Herceptin dose.

Alibug-good for you-sounds like you are breezing through the rads!!

I met my good friend for lunch today.  She bought me a beautiful gift for my b'day-a pink canvas bag filled with 40 pink tulip bulbs.  I came home and planted them around two of my trees.  I saved six-one to give to my mom, sister, brother, and my three best friends.  I will tell each of them to plant this to remind them each spring of the incredible support they have been giving me!!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hey Girls,

Stacy, so glad everything went well.  What is the next step for you?

Bette-you'll be done in less than a month-good for you!!

Lisa, congrats on the negative genetic testing.

Jeannine-waiting to hear how your surgery went!!

I went for my pre-op with my PCP yesterday and had the bloodwork done.  So, now I just wait for the implants exchange in two weeks.  My DH and I are celebrating our 15th anniversary tomorrow, and I have my 41st b'day on Saturday.  41 has got to be better than 40!!!!!!!  Anyway, funny how these special days mean so much more than they use to mean.  No hair yet, but my DH says that what did remain is growing and getting thicker.  Looks like I am going to be wearing this wig for a long time to come!!

Hope everyone is well!!

Getting ready to start Taxotere and Cytoxan

Good luck, Denise.

I just finished 4 TX's of TC on 9/30.  Like you, I filtered what I read and tried to be positive once it got going.  I had very few problems and was able to work, exercise, and lead somewhat of a normal life!!

All the best!  Believe it or not, your time will go fast and it will be over before you know it.

Stacy-good luck with your surgery tomorrow!!  Let us know how everything went!!

Jeanine-good luck to you on Wednesday.  Both of you girls are getting one step closer.

Lisa-glad your surgery is over.  Hopefully, you are recovering quickly.

DF-hope you're doing better after the tax TX.

Chelli- I will be getting the Herceptin until beginning of July, so I'll be bringing up the rear even though I finished the chemo first!!

I am going for my pre-op (before implants exchange on 11/19) with my PCP tomorrow.

Still no hair yet-five weeks since the last TX.  Oh, well, maybe soon!  Roya-how is your hair growth?!

Question on TCH 4 cycles versus 6??

I just got done 4 cycles of taxotere/cytoxin/herceptin on 9/30.  I will continue to get herceptin through July. My onc said that 4 rounds of this is just as good as AC from a study done last year.  I had no nodes involved.  I just did this to prevent recurrence being HER2+++.

Gail-

Congratulations!!  That is wonderful.  I know what you mean about feeling like you "just got out of school."  I am still having that feeling over one month later.  Just get over this next week or two, and you will feel GREAT!!  What are the next steps for you?  Have you already had your surgery or are you doing reconstruction of any kind?  Rads?  Tamox?

Stacy-Four days and counting!!  I can't wait for you to get past your surgery.  That will make your pre-chemo worthwhile.

Hood-I saw you joining the Nov. reconstruction group.  You and I are having our surgery on the same day!!  I don't think you will have too much of a problem with the expander.  I'll be getting mine out as you are getting yours in.  How funny!

Alibug-are you still breezing through your rads!!!????

How's everyone else?

Happy Halloween, everyone.  Enjoy the weekend.

If onc says TC which "T" does she mean???

She probably means Taxotere and cytoxan.  That is what I just got done doing four rounds of.  It wasn't that bad-just some bad taste changes.  I also had herceptin with mine and will continue that alone until July.

Good luck!

Anyone starting chemo in Aug. 08?

Hey Everybody!

Thanks for the kind words and cheers.  I knew everyone's good thoughts would pay off.

Deanna, I started taking Biotin two weeks ago because I heard it helped with hair growth.  Nothing growing yet and it's been four weeks.  But, I am starting to see the leg and bikini hair returning.  Not what I wanted to see first!!  I thought you may have been busy because I hadn't seen any posts from you.  Any sign of hair yet?  It looks like Roya is the lucky one for now.

Roya, how is the Taxol TX coming along?  When do you finish?

Monique-I am having my expander out and silicone implants on both sides.  I will finally have something to fill the bikini and it only took me  41 years!!  My next-door neighbor is a PS, and he advised me to go with silicone as well as my PS who is taking care of me.  Silicone is suppose to be more natural and not cause problems like it did many years ago.

Allibug-good luck with rads tomorrow!!  I am sure your time will fly by.  Just think, at least you won't lose any more hair with that TX!

Stacy-ouch for your DH-sounds painful.  Will you be able to vote before your surgery?!

As for me, I just got home from meeting with my surgeon.  She and the nurses were thrilled to hear that it was only a cyst.  They said they were rootin' for me.  No action is needed-just follow-up in the winter to make sure it doesn't change.

I am just so happy that I can continue with my scheduled implants and move on!!!!!  I agree with you Alibug-2009 should be a much better year for all of us.

Have a good night, girls!  it was quite windy here today, but my "Lanie" held on tightly to my head.

TCH: 4X or 6X?

I just finished last month and had 4 TC. No nodes for me.   I continue to get the Herceptin every 3 weeks.

Anyone starting chemo in Aug. 08?

WOO-HOO!!

Turns out that it is a very small cyst!!!  I had a mammo done first, then a sonogram.  The tech was so nice-was very happy and relieved for me knowing what I have been through.  I had some of these on the other side, so I am not surprised to see them again.  I will still go see my surgeon tomorrow because she wanted to see me in the fall anyway.  At least I am all clear at this point.  I can't thank all of you enough for your good thoughts.  You are the best!!  As I was leaving (after 2 hours), I thought that I couldn't wait to get home to post to all of you.  You are becoming like family!!  In the back of my mind, I knew it wasn't going to be bad, but I never say never anymore!!

Roya-I'm jealous of your new fuzz-I have nothing yet and it's been 4 weeks tomorrow since the last TX.  I keep checking every day.

My DH is out of town, but he was so relieved to hear my news-I think it is time for a DRINK!!!!

Have a good night all.

~Misty
