I am BRCA2+ and am looking in to having PBM... in fact my first appointment to meet the Drs is this coming monday August 18 2008
My story is a bit different I inherited the gene from my Dad's side of the family ... His mother (my grandmother) had the mutation. Both my Aunts passed away early in life (cancer was not a factor). The closes relative I have that has tested possitive (and had cancer) is my DAD's cousin. Her dad and my grandmother were siblings... When she was tested she passed the news to the rest of the family.
I'm finding that most women here, have very close female relatives that have had BC or taken some sort of prophylatic action.
I'm on my own in my familly so these Message boards have been a wonderful help/encouragement to me.
Many blessings to you all.

incision won't close after mastectomy and implantI just met with my PS on monday to go over my Mastectomy/reconstruction. I had a ton of questions. One of them I posed to him was exactly that... what if my incision will not heal. He said what we would have to do is remove the implant and let my body heal it self. He said that my body has gone thru a terrible shock (mastectomy) and may not be able to handle having this foreign body (implant/expander) insde. He would remove it, let my body heal then we would have to try again in a few months (...does not sound like a fun deal) Hope this helps.. I wish you well in your recovery. p.s. make sure you do what you feel is right. The Dr is not living with this, you are. ~Lianne |

WOMEN OF FAITHLord, I come before you humbly and thank You for these women. Each and every one of these beautiful women who write and read this message board. I pray Lord that you would bless each one of these women according to her need. Lord, if she is feeling alone, that she would feel your presence with her. If she feels tired and physically spent, may she feel your arms around her holding her up. If she is hurting Lord, touch her and take away that pain. If she is doubtful, Lord sooth those fears. How wonderful it is Father to know you are here with us. Thank you for being by our side every step of the way. Thank you for bringing others into our lives to help us. In Your precious name I pray Amen. ~Lianne |

Preventative Surgery. Implants vs. TRAMLadies! Thank you so much for all your input. This was my first post on these message boards and your feed back has been overwhelming. Thank you for that. I have since discovered the FORCE website which is focused more on those of us who have not been diagnosed with BC and are taking steps to ensure that it does not happen. One thing I have learned is that there is an endless debate on nearly every aspect of Mast and recon. Which flap procedure.. Which implant.. when to have surgery... Also I see now that it is ultimately a very personal decision; I have to be confident with the choice I make. I thought at the beginning of me research that I would know immediately which procedure 'should' be done. Thanks to you all when I see my surgeons Monday I will certainly be armed with knowledge! Thank you all for that. Blessings, ~Lianne ~Lianne |

Not Diagnosed but Concerned + Not Diagnosed but Worried, Created: Aug 12, 2008 08:59 am
18 years old is it impossible to get breast cancer?xuan, I'm sorry you are so scared, I understand what it is to wonder without knowing. I too have had pain in my breast in the past; a sharp almost stabbing pain, it made me catch my breath even, then it would ache, then pass. In my case it was nothing at all. If you are worried about it (which you obivously are since you're here) Please, go see your Dr. and talk to him about it. They will be the ones who can give you those answers. I know that breast cancer is very rare in someone as young as yourself. Please go see your doctor... Come back and let us know how things go! ~Lianne |

The Canadian Connection...calling all canadian womenHello Ladies! My name is Lianne, I am a Ottawa gal. Although I live on the Quebec side now. I have an appointment next Monday at the Ville Marie Womens Center in Montreal to meet with Dr. Kyserlingk and Dr. Zelt to talk about prophylactic surgery. Now that I have made the decision to go ahead with the procedure I dont' want to wait!! but I'm sure there will be a waiting period. Do any of my Canadian Sisters out here have any experience with The Ville Marie Center or Dr. Zelt? I would appreciate any information/experience you can pass on to me! Blessings to you all ~Lianne |

Preventative Surgery. Implants vs. TRAMThank you all for your input. It really helps to 'have it out' here with all of you. Question to you Laura.. When you said came thru TRAm very quickly and easily, how much time passed? When did you go back to work for example? Were you in a lot of pain when you got home from your hospital stay? |

Preventative Surgery. Implants vs. TRAMI am going to meet with my surgeons in two weeks to talk about my options. I am 29yrs old and a BRCA2 mutation carrier. After having a 'false positive' in my yearly MRI scan last year I have decided to go ahead and have prophylactic (preventative surgery). I am now faced with the the HUGE decision as to what type of surgery to have. I guess what I am looking for is for others who are in my situation and what they did... also feed back as to results and regrets (if any). I am also looking to find photo's on-line... What I am finding is that most of the pictures on-line are of women who have had breast cancer and some form of treatment.... am I wrong in assuming my final results will be better than theirs? ( i have read that radiation especially can affect the skin/healing of a breast) I am trying to make the best decision and I feel as though that would be to have the TRAM procedure done (the Dr. I am going to see specializes in that procedure- I say that I think it would be best because it is a one time thing, permanent and most natural looking). But the truth is i'm scared out of my mind to have it done! I'm afraid of the pain, the additional surgery and the scars. I would appreciate any comment/suggestions. Thank you, ~Lianne |
