Odd feeling

I really hate the cancel button at the bottom of this screen. I have hit it many times by mistake after typing out a bunch of stuff. What I had previously said was that I would never have admitted that I was putting a certain amount of comfort in the chemo, but I guess I must have been.  This will just cause me to lean on God all the more once it is completely over. That is not a bad thing, just a change.

Odd feeling

Hi all,

I have my LAST chemo on Tuesday, in 2 days. I am glad that will be over, but it feels strange to think that it will not be the norm anymore. I have been going through it for so long. I will still go in every week for my Herceptin, but it will be strange not to have to go in for chemo anymore. Does that make sense? It also makes me a little nervous that everyone will expect that I will be 100% back to normal right away and able to do everything I did before all of this. Also odd, huh? Where are all of these feelings coming from?

I heard good things today

I met with the plastic surgeon today about my exchange surgery and reduction on the left.  It will either be Dec 9th or 16th. Waiting on my oncologist's opinion to know for sure.  Anyway, my PS said he will do the nipple at the same time so I won't have to go in for another surgery. Yippee!! Also, he said with saline, if it leaks I will know and it can be fixed with a local. That is what I am going with. The less anesthesia the better!! I am feeling much better about it than I did before I went in there today.

side effects of Taxol

Don't be scared. It is not fun by any means, but no need to be scared. I had a much stronger chemo 4 times before this that was so much worse.  I am dealing with fatigue and some sleepness nights. I had tingling in my hands and feet, but am taking vitamin B6 and B12 per doc's recommendation. That has done away with the majority of the tingling.  I do have occasional problems with bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Don't forget though, everyone reacts differently.

Frustrated and disappointed

Thanks everyone! I talked to my MIL today. We never used to get along before all of this. She had rectal cancer last year, and we have really bonded through this. She takes me every other week to my chemo. She agreed that her son (my husband) needs to change his habits. I will ease him into it and not give up. In the past, I would just give up and go back to the unhealthy version.

Frustrated and disappointed

It has always been a struggle throughout our 12 years of marriage about any change I make, no matter how slight. I made spaghetti without meat in the sauce a few weeks ago and he whined through the entire meal. What kind of message does that send to our young kids? My two oldest (8 and 10) are very much into health themselves, so they don't mind the changes and are more open to them. My 5 year old son has as bad a diet as my husband and also whines over changes. I told him last night that cancer has really changed me and I was shocked it didn't change him, at least not in a permanent way. He argued with me about food before all of this and he is still doing it. I am still going through chemo and he is arguing. Last night he was miffed because I bought brown rice instead of white. Come on!! What is more important in life, having your wife and family healthy or the color of rice???

Frustrated and disappointed

I am trying to make dietary changes to improve my health. I am trying to eat better and help my family to eat better as well. The trouble is that I have an extremely stubborn husband. He refuses to make changes and is always complaining when I do. I can't believe that after his wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is still going through chemo that he would complain. He complained about changes I made before all of this happened, but I am totally shocked that after all of this he is still the same way. It hurts.

Does desperation play a role in developing breast cancer?

I was under severe stress with a very difficult marriage and a high-functioning Autistic son for years. In Dec 07 I told my husband I wanted us to temporarily separate. We didn't separate and went into counseling. This was the 3rd time we had been in counseling. I was diagnosed with Stage III invasive breast cancer in May 08. I am convinced that the extreme stress I was under was a contributing factor in my case. That and the 4 Mountain Dews I drank a day that just fed the tumor. Cancer is a sugar feeder. That is why PET scans work. They use sugar to find the cancer. I am living a much less stressful life now and my son is doing very well. I will not allow myself to get that stressed again. I can't prove it was a "cause," but I believe the stress compromised my immune system.

Eyebrows

We endure so much. This is quite the journey and quite the humbling experience, at least for me.

Eyebrows

Wow, that is cool!!! They are a little pricey, but I am considering it. I just wish there was a way to know how long it will be before they grow back. I only have 3 chemo treatments left.  I hung onto my eyebrows all the way through AC and most of the Taxol treatments. I didn't even notice it much until about a month ago. Now there are only 12 or so clinging to each eyebrow. I honestly never thought I would lose them. They were SO thick!!

Has anyone used that lotion while going through radiation? I have seen other posts about lotions people use during radiation to less the side effects.

Eyebrows

What do these kits do? I wish I could just get some stick on eyebrows that lasted for months. I am not doing a very good job at drawing these in. I am sure I will get better. Good to hear that they could grow back in quickly. I just want to look "normal" again.

Eyebrows

I dealt with losing my hair and my skin getting wrinkled and my nails turning colors. I have always had very thick eyebrows. Now there is hardly anything left of them. I have only 3 Taxol treatments to go. I was not expecting to lose the eyebrows. It must be the Taxol doing that? At least when I wear my wig the eyebrow area is camoflauged. I am going to the mall to do Christmas shopping today. I may ask someone at a makeup counter if they have a way to make me look like I have more eyebrows. I have never had to deal with that before.

Don't want more surgery - nipple

Thanks everyone! This site is so great, all the support and advice! I am a planner. That is why I am asking about this now even though I am not even done with chemo yet. I didn't know you could get prosthetic nips. What an interesting world we live in. I have quite a while before I would reach the nip phase since I have to finish chemo, have the surgery, and then radiation. I am sure I have already made up my mind though. No more extra surgeries.

Don't want more surgery - nipple

I am so pleased it worked out so well for you! However, I really don't think I will ever change my mind. I have had a lot of surgeries in my life, tonsils, 2 knee surgeries, gallbladder, reduction, mastectomy, port. I will have the reconstruction and will call it quits I believe. It is just not at all important to me. I just don't want another surgery, especially for something I don't care about. My husband will just have to accept me the way I will be and live with it. If a nipple is that important to him then he needs to wake up and realize priorities. That being said, I am glad it has worked well for so many of you. I have already decided at this point, and by listening to you guys and doing research, that I am going to a tattoo person. Maybe I should get a tattoo of a big ol' smiley face right where the nipple was. Wouldn't that be a riot???

That looks wonderful!! You will have to tell me more about this nipple bud under local. That I could deal with.

Bummer. When I do a search there is no one local. About 2-1/2 to 3 hours away.

Wow! Those do look good. I am impressed. I will have to find someone that can do that around here though. Not sure that is a plastic surgeon thing to do. I also wouldn't just want to show up at any tattoo parlor. More research I guess. Thanks!
