I'm 31years old. I've always maintained a healthy lifestyle, with no history of breast cancer in my immediate family. I was stunned when I found out I have breast cancer. I'm facing a double mastectomy followed with reconstructive surgery. I need other fellow warriors of breast cancer to feed me strength through their own testimonies.
God Bless us all. None of us deserve this.

Double MastectomySoccermom, thanks for your concern. My surgery was last Monday. I am healing up quite well so far, but I will say the pain was excruciating the first two days after they took me off the pain pump and put me on oral pain meds. Finally I am now getting relief from the meds, and I find I can move around so much more. Being on my feet is no problem. Still not much hand and arm mobililty yet. I'm not too bothered with the drains either. I document everything as far as what meds taken when, and how much drains emptied at twice a day. That's about it. We have a lot of help from family, which is so needed. All in all I'd say recovery is going well. Dx 9/3/2008, DCIS, Stage 0 |

Double MastectomyHi everyone, I was recently diagnosed with DCIS with possible microinvasion. I have calcifications consuming 80% of the breast, so my only choice is mastectomy. I'm opting for a double mastectomy. My surgery is this coming Monday, September 29th. I'm having the expanders put in at the time of the mastectomy, so the reconstruction part will begin immediately. Oh - also having a sentine node biopsy at the time of mastectomy. Could anyone who's been through this same thing please give me any feedback on what to expect? I'm terrified. Thank you. Need Advice and SupportIf it gives you any comfort...I'm in exactly the same shoes as yours. DCIS - high-grade (there is a microinvasion in the biopsy). I am needing a mastectomy due to calcifications consuming 80% of the breast. I am opting to have a double mastectomy. I have too many years ahead of me to worry if the cancer will return. You sound like you're right on track, and that you're really doing your homework on all of this. I'm sure you'll come out the other side with flying colors! Dx 9/3/2008, DCIS, Stage 0 |

Terrified of the "unknown" factorI am scared out of my mind about my new diagnosis of breast cancer. I have high-grade DCIS and am facing a double mastectomy at the age of 31. I am told there may be more invasive cancer in a finding from the biopsy called a microinvasion. Does anyone know more about microinvasion? I'm terrified. I need fellow cancer-fighting warriors to share their strength and coping methods. I need any support I can get!

If you have just been diagnosed....I just received my diagnosis yesterday. I have high-grade Ductal Carcinoma in situ. Due to the fact that 80% of the breast is filled with calcifications, I'm facing a mastectomy. I can't believe at 31yrs old this is happening! |

I'm only 30 with breast cancerI feel like I'm in similar shoes with you. I'm 31, and waiting for my diagnosis. They say most likely DCIS. I'm looking at the probablity of double mastectomy. It's the scariest time in my life. I'm sending you warm wishes and prayers. |
