I am a 55 year old woman, with no history of breast cancer or any other cancer in my family for at least the last four generations, no grandparents, aunts, siblings or cousins or children.
I've been married for 35 years to my sole mate, we have adopted New Hampshire as our home state, and have been here for 19 years.
I have two children a daughter who's 31 and lives in Illinois with her husband, they are trying to have a baby, but have had two unsuccessful try's, she is now expecting again, but I'm not supposed to tell any one yet.
My son who is 28 also lives in New Hampshire, just one town over from us, he and his girlfriend have a baby daughter who is just going to be 6 months the 7th of September.
We are planing a trip with our best friends who have adopted New Mexico for there home state. We've been friends since both our daughters went to first grade with each other. We're planing to go to the Caribbean by Royal Caribbean cruise lines in October, I am holding on to the hope that we will make this cruise. I am determined not to let breast cancer get in my way of enjoying this trip!!!!!!

Connecting With Others Who Have a Similar Diagnosis + IDC (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma), Created: Sep 4, 2008 07:59 pm
Third time aroundI was diagnosed with IDC on July 8th, 2008,(my birthday) I right off the bat wanted to have a mastectomy, but the doctor gave us a lot of information and told us to go home and think about what we wanted to do, he was pushing for a lumpectomy, by Sunday evening my husband and I hadn't mentioned anything about the subject, he kept himself busy doing different projects around the house, so when I broached the subject with him, he was under the impression that we were going with the lumpectomy, so that's what we went with. So on 8/8 I had a lumpectomy and had lymph nodes taken out, 3 to be exact. After the surgery the doctor was confident that all went well, we just had to get the okay form pathologist. He also told us that my receptors were negative for hormone therapy. Well, things didn't go well at all, the margins came back negative, all the cancer wasn't removed. So on July 27th, I had another surgery to clear up the margins, and to put a chemo port in. Wouldn't you know that also came back with negative margins. Now the doctor says I have IDC which is Multi-Focal, meaning that not only did I have a large lump about 2 Cm. but also have many smaller lumps that didn't show up on the mammogram. So where am I know, I'm now looking at a mastectomy, which I wanted in the first place. I have to go Saturday the 6th for an MRI to check out both breasts, my right breast is the breast with the cancer in it, my left breast according to the mammogram was clear. So the doctor wants to check that out, he says he'll get back to us either Monday or Tuesday with the results of the MRI, I have an appointment to see him again on the 11th of September. I've also gone ahead and had my pcp to make me an appointment at another hospital with another doctor. If I have a mastectomy with my current doctor, I have to go to another hospital to have the reconstruction any how. So it makes sense for me to go for a second opinion at another hospital that will do every thing at the same time. I am lined up to see a surgeon, plastic surgeon and a chemo doctor, at the same time, much better than running around from one office to another office to the hospital. So, has any one run into this besides me. Is this a normal turn of events. Thanks Me-Mere Dx 7/8/2008, IDC, 2cm, Stage IIa, 0/3 nodes, ER-/PR-, HER2- |
