Help--are titanium clips necessary?Dear Annie, Thank you so much for responding. I've been such a nervous wreck and have noone to talk to. If ,hopefully, the biopsy is negative, can the clip be removed ? I just don't like the idea of a metal clip in my breast. As for the medical team, it is nearly impossible to get a hold of the doctor (always in surgery) and when I call the radiology center I end up speaking with receptionists who say a radiologist will call back but they never do. Thank you again for responding and for giving me the first aspect of peace that I've had since I was told I needed a biopsy. Best wishes to you. Gratefully, Lenka |

Help--are titanium clips necessary?Hi everyone, I'm not sure where to post this one but I recently had an MRI which showed a nonmasslike cobblestonelike appearance measuring 3.4 cm in length at the 9:00 axis in the right breast. MRI was given to me because I had breast pain. Mammo was negative. The radiologist wants me to get a MRI guided needle core biopsy in which a titanium clip will be inserted to mark the area in the future. I told the radiologist that I want the biopsy but not the clip and was told that is was the only way it can be done. Other radiological centers told me the same. I am concerned that the placement of a titanium clip in the breast in and of itself can cause cancer or dislodge and travel in the bloodstream to other organs (ie heart). Why is it if a woman wants a biopsy to rule out cancer that she has to consent to placement of titanum in the breast??!! Can anyone offer any guidance? I'm scheduled for the procedure on 9/11. I live in Long Island, New York. Does anyone know of any radiological centers that don't require the use of a titanium clip? Thanks for any help or guidance that anyone can offer. |
