Latissimus Dorsi Flap on one side onlyKayree/Karen: Thanks for responding! Glad to hear you are doing well and that the surgery was not too bad. You had implants but no expanders? Are you small, like an A or B, is that the reason? Yes, seems this board is full of Karens (sometimes spelled a little differently)!! |

Latissimus Dorsi Flap on one side onlyKaren - Sorry to hear that your LD flap didn't work out for you and you had to go through so much pain and tightness. But I am very happy for you that you had success with the GAP surgery! I will check out your pics... I wish you continued success and thanks for your response! Karyn |

Latissimus Dorsi Flap on one side onlyHas anyone (who had bi-lateral mx) had a LD flap done on the radiated side and chosen not to do the LD on the non-cancerous side? If so, did you have expander and implant alone on the good side? Are you happy with your results? I don't want to have the LD procedure on both sides if I think I can get a good cosmetic result and symmetry with just doing the radiated side. Thanks! |

Need some adviceBarbara - Glad to hear that you are almost finished with everything and will be able to put this all behind you soon. I hope '09 will be a happy and healthy year for you... and go on that cruise! I am wondering, did you have lat flap surgery on your left side only? and then expander and implant only on the right? If so, are you happy with your results so far now that you have your implants in? I will be having the LD also and have been told that you won't get as good a cosmetic result if you do LD on one side and not the other. Would love to hear from you ~ Teresa - Best of Luck to you! Looking for advice re: Latissimus DorsiI will be having a bi-lateral mastectomy very soon and I am leaning towards the Latissimus Dorsi reconstruction. I had a lumpectomy and radiation to the left breast 15 years ago and a now have a new cancer in the same breast (DCIS). I am very confused however, because I have read so many different things about this procedure and its results. I would love to hear from all of you out there who have chosen the LD with as much information as possible throughout your entire experience. I am hoping that after I hear some of your stories, I will be in a better position to make a decision, which I need to make very soon. These discussion boards are wonderful and I am so glad I found a place where we can all help each other. Thanks so much! |

Advice for active womenI will be having a bi-lateral mastectomy soon and even though I am still confused as whether to do recon or not, right now I am leaning towards no reconstruction. I am very active (walk/run, play tennis, hike) and my biggest concern is finding a bra and form that will work very well for me during these times. For those of you out there who are exercise enthusiasts like me, have you found something that works well for you, a bra where you feel confident with no shifting, etc.? Also, I am just starting to learn about all of the options for us who choose not to go with reconstruction. I am wondering though..don't they have bras out there where you don't have to insert a form - where it is all built in? Seems to me this would be a better option. I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks everyone! |

Connecting With Others Who Have a Similar Diagnosis + DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ), Created: Sep 12, 2008 10:48 pm
Now DCISDon't they always send the breast tissue for pathology review following a mastectomy? I am not sure if my BS plans to do a node biopsy - I need to get clarification on that as well on Monday. I already had most of my lymph nodes on the left removed 15 years ago (all negative), I believe I only have a few left. The nurse didn't seem to think so but I need to know for sure and know exactly what I am facing. My surgery has not been scheduled yet as I need to decide on a PS and meet with him first, then the surgery, mast + recon, will be scheduled. I think I know who I am choosing for my PS and will call on Monday for an appt. I hope to get in asap. Thanks! |

Now DCISHi ~ I am so gald I found this forum! I was diagnosed with IDC 15 years ago, had lumpectomy, radiation and tamoxifin for 5 years. Just diagnosed again with DCIS, Grade 2, same breast (left). Had a MRI and came back clean except for a few more calcifications in left breast. My BS feels there is no need for a biopsy of these calcs. With my past history of BC in that breast, I will need a mastectomy but will most probably opt to have a bi-lateral so I don't have to EVER worry about this again. Should I be concerned that these new calcifications seen on the MRI are not going to be biopsied? I trust my dr. but won't have a chance to talk to her or the nurse again until next week. |
