ThroidectomyHi Gwen, I had a complete thyroidectomy in 2000, and was surprised that there was only minor pain from the surgery, but I had muscle spasms that were very uncomfortable that lasted for about a month. My hospital stay was short, just overnight to make sure that the swelling didn't get out of control and block my airway. Before I was released my surgeon removed the bandage to check things and he was concerned about the excessive bruising, and the swelling was a little more than he liked, but I convinced him to let me go home, with the promise if things got worse I would return. I really dislike being in the hospital, and he knew that so he did let me go. Trying to eat after the surgery isn't fun, because there is swelling, and it is hard to swallow, more from swelling than pain. I was sure that nothing could possibly pass the area, and for the first few days it was very uncomfortable to eat so I ate pudding, mashed potatoes, ice cream, and drank lots of fluids. When you feel like you can swallow again I would recommend that you cut your food into small pieces, it took quite some time before I could eat whatever I wanted. I was badly bruised for about 6 weeks. The swelling and muscle spasms were the biggest complaints that I had for the first few weeks, after that it was exhaustion. It took a long time to get the Synthroid regulated, and I was exhausted for months. My mom, two of her sisters, two of my cousins and myself have all had our thyroids removed and we all had different experiences, not drastic differences but some differences, so I'm sure your experience will be different as well, but hopefully this gives you an idea of what to expect. I hope this helps, if you have more questions please feel free to PM me, I will be glad to answer any questions if I can. Hugs, JoJo |

Community Afghan Sisters....Thank You!Dear Sisters,
I think I'm in shock, I don't know how to thank you for this beautiful afghan! I love it! I am so humbled. I cannot believe that this beautiful afghan is mine, I truly don't have the words to express how grateful I am and how special this makes me feel. I don't deserve it, but I thank you so very much. Your thoughtfulness has truly touched my heart. Once again....Thank you so very much! Love and Hugs, JoJo |

Prayers for Our NoSurrenderI posted this in your thread Gina, I didn't see this thread at the time, so I decided to post it here as well.
G, you remain in my prayers for God to guide the surgeon's hands and to quickly ease your pain. I'm also sending you a prayer to carry with you tomorrow. Every Day I Need You Lord Every day I need you Lord But this day especially, I need some extra strength To face what ever is to be. This day more than any day I need to feel you near, To fortify my courage And to overcome my fear. By myself, I cannot meet The challenge of the hour, There are times when humans help, But we need a higher power To assist us bear what must be borne, and so dear Lord, I pray - Hold on to my trembling hand And be near me today. |

Prayers for JoJoI am so filled with emotion right now that I don't have the words to express how much I love you all and thank you so much for continuing to lift me up in prayer. You are all the most amazing loving humans on this earth. Thank you, thank you so much. Please continue to pray for me, I am not doing well at all. I try, I really try to do well, but the pain is almost unbearable, there seems to be no relief in sight. I have new symptoms, I have no idea what is happening, I have gained 25 pounds of fluid in less than 2 weeks. My feet are so swollen that I can barely stand on them, I have more pain in my left rib area, I'm not sure it's actually rib pain, it is a large area around and under the ribs and too tender for me to investigate much. I have an appt. with my onc next Monday, March 12th. I didn't make the appt. it is my regular 6 month check up.
I come to the sight and read, when I can. I rarely post, but you are all in my heart and prayers. I came here today to post a prayer for g, I've read that she is having surgery tomorrow, I had no idea that you wonderful, loving people have continued to think about me, and pray for me, I feel so unworthy of your care and concern. I am never here to support you all anymore. I do read when I can, and I do pray for you, but you don't know it because I don't post. I am so sorry, please know that if you don't see me around it does not mean that you are not in my heart and in my prayers, because you are, every single day. Thank you again so very much! Love, JoJo |

Feel like crap now....Pam, I'm so sorry about your cat. I think you did the right thing, and I agree with the ladies her. I'm sure that our pets would much prefer to spend their final moments in their own homes, whenever it's possible. I think you are a wonderful pet mom and things worked out the way they were supposed to.
Big Hugs, JoJo |

A Fun QuizI got this in an email today, and did it then. I got 11 out of 11. How? I have no idea? Most of the time I have a hard time remembering my name, LOL.
