shellbaroniI was "searching" for information on bone marrow mets and came across your post in relation to "iron feeding the cccr". at the present moment my platelets and red cell count is very low. the oncologist thinks I have bone marrow mets. i've discontinued the Xeloda for the last 4 weeks, but the platelets haven't increased, so the low platelets aren't from chemo. and are probably from bone marrow mets. i've started drinking "blackstrap molasses" which is supposed to help with low red cell count, but given what you are saying, this may not be a good idea. could you please explain. thanks Cheryl |

alaskadebI understand that you have bone marrow mets. i'm only just starting to travel down this road so do you mind if I pick your brains??? I have an appointment with a haematologist next week because my platelets keep dropping. i've been off Xeloda for about 4 weeks now but the platelets keep on dropping, so my onc. thinks that the drop is probably caused by bone marrow mets. I haven't had a bone marrow biopsy as yet but think that will probably come after the haematologist appt. i'm hoping to gather as much info as I can before my appointment. thanks in advance Shed |

black strap mollassesi've heard that blackstrap mollasses is good for building up your iron levels and platelets. has anybody heard anything detrimental or to the contrary. you need to be so careful with what you are taking, I was juicing beetroot which is good for blood pressure, bones, cancer, etc.. but was told that because my platelets are low I shouldn't be having beetroot. it stops the platelets from sticking together, which you don't want to happen when your platelets are low, . |

low plateletsthanks for your reply. i'm currently on Xeloda, although I wasn't allowed to pick up tablets this morning as my platelet count had dropped another 6 points. the onc did mention bone marrow mets, but wants to wait and see if the platelets come back up before doing a bone marrow biopsy. the platelets just seemed to drop heaps in the last 6 weeks. the count was 165 and dropped in 6 weeks to 56 and now dropped 6 points in @ week. I don't take vitamin K supplements so will ask at my next visit, which is just over @ week away. I do have Zometa every 6 weeks, does anyone know how does green tea affect the platelets??? |

bone marrow metsI would have thought they were worse, because if your platelet level is low, you cannot have chemo and the ccr keeps growing. it seems like a vicious circle. |

Has anyone heard of taking iodine for BC?i'm estrogen/progesterone positive and am currently on Xeloda. i'm a bit wary of taking things containing anti-oxidents whilst on Xeloda, is the iodine contraidictory to Xeloda???? |

herbal cocktailwas reading on one of our news sites about a cocktail of sticky rice, red wine, berries and spices meshed into pill form being the latest answer in the fit against cancer. a recent study has found the concoction reduces the risk of cancer in humans by up to 40 percent. has anyone heard about this?? |
