anyone notice hair growing in the donated part of the breast. I have notice a little hair on it that I know was not there. Has anyone had this or is it just me?

Yes, both of my TRAMs have fine belly hair on them and I've read about other women experiencing this also. I also have stretch marks going horizontally across my breasts from where the skin used to be my belly. It was my first impression of my new breasts when I was in the hospital "What are the stripes about?" It looked like I was wearing a zebra striped bikini! |

Yep, little fine blond hairs on one nipple and nice upper leg/outer groin darkies on the other (nipple reconstruct with groin flap in 2005). I just shave 'um both and carry on! God Bless, Abby "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess for he who promised is faithful." Hebrews 10:23

took a while to notice it on mine , it's been 4 months since sx, but when you realize it's skin from your belly, it's not surprizing. just happy i don't have the darker 'groin' hairs... i was worried about that. also, i'm pretty sure the 'stripes' are just from belly stretch marks. i had skin sparing sx too, so it's just the areola area with my belly skin. figure with the nipple reconstruction and tattoo it won't be an issue eventually. |

It is totally normal. If they bother you, generally when you shave them they don't regrow. But you may want to talk to you PS... if he or she has an aestethician in the office you should pop in for a visit to discuss getting rid of them for good. I told you I only play to win....

Im afraid to shave them. They are fine hairs so i'm afraid to make them thicker or grow more. Going to address that with my ps when i go in for the next visit. Thanks for the replies Dx 11/18/2002, ILC, 1cm, Stage I, 0/7 nodes, PR-, HER2- |

My hair is already dark so I went ahead and shaved it off. I haven't noticed again since then. I think that if it grows back at all it is very slowly and less noticeable. I just checked ;-) and there is nothing there at the moment. When a woman tells the truth she is creating the possibility for more truth around her. Adrienne Rich

I had belly hair on tram breast too. That was in Dec 05, it does stop growing after time. Maybe about 6 mos later I didn't notice it anymore. Don't shave it, I think that is too risky. Love when you can, Cry when you have to, be who you must, that's the part of the plan.- Dan Fogelberg

I'm bumping this thread for anyone who may have had a recent flap and are, like me, noticing the hair on their new boob. I remembered reading about it prior to my tram, but then didn't give it much thought again until I noticed the hairs last night (tram was on 4/2). Had an appt with my PS this morning and asked her about it, she said I could tweeze them, but didn't think shaving would be safe since I'm numb. She said they may or may not grow back and if I wanted them gone permanently I could have laser. I think I'll try the tweezers and see if they stay gone. . .crossing my fingers. I had to laugh at tam's stretch mark comment. I was very lucky during my pregnancies to only have about 5 or 6 stretch marks total on my tummy. Well now 2 of them are on my boob. Since the rest of them are now gone from my tummy, I figure I might as well keep one for each baby and now they're closer to my heart. . .LOL. Sheila . . .Never regret something that made you smile.

Oh my gosh I just found this (Hi Sheila, love the stretch mark thing) and I'm cracking up only because I have the "flap hair" too! (I needed to laugh) I also discovered a mole that was once on my belly is now on my foob. I'm glad to hear the hair will eventually go away. Think I'll try some tweezing in the meantime. Christy

Wish I'd paid more attention to where things were on my tummy prior to having this surgery. . .looked at it everyday but now can't remember exactly what it looked like (except that it was a lot bigger). The only thing I know for sure is that the scar from my gall bladder surgery that was a few inches above my belly button is now gone. I think it got pulled into my new belly button. . .so strange, it's been there 12 years and now it's gone. Sheila . . .Never regret something that made you smile.

ANyoone have Tram AFTER having implants? I had a double mast with recon (expanders) and one side is not doing well.... I think it's called capsular contracture... that side was previously radiated many years ago after lumpectomy for bc round 1. Just wondering how involved the process is. Would only have one sie done.. |

I have the hair too and mine is growing upside down. My PS said that the hair was a good sign because the skin was getting adequate blood flow. Once things settle down they are going to do the permanent hair removal as part of my reconstruction. Dx 7/13/2006, IDC, 5cm, Stage IIIb, 13/25 nodes, mets, ER+, HER2- |

blue - Sorry you're having problems with your implant, they are tricky after radiation. I'm pretty sure there are several on the site who've had a flap procedure after implants. It can be done with good results. Hopefully someone will come along soon to answer your questions. rferraris - Glad to hear your PS say it was a good sign. Mine didn't tell me that, but it was what I was thinking. . .figured hair would only grow on a healthy flap. Since she did mention laser to me today, I'm going to ask her if it would be considered part of the recon and paid for by insurance. . .that would be sweet. Nice that your PS includes it. I have lots of stomage hair on both of my flap. I tried to shave a small area to see if it will grow back and it did. Talked to my ps. We will permenatnly remove them with lazer, but I will have to wait untill after my chemo. |

I asked my PS if I could put Nair on it and he gave me the go-ahead about 1-1/2 months after my surgery. Although he did say to try and keep it away from the scar area. He also told me to discontinue using the Nair at least 2 weeks before my nipple surgery. He said some women choose laser hair removal if it bothers them too much. I've only used Nair once and am now 3 months out. I can see a few of them growing back, so will probably do it again in another month or so. |
