Hello ladies-Hope all is going good with every one.  Had my last injection today and set up surgery for July 8th, have to go in and see my ps a week before surgery so that I can "pick out" what implants I want. Last time I had the saline implant-and ended up with capsular contraction-so this time I am leaning towards he silicone impant, but would appreciate any input you ladies may have.

lag, Has your PS given an opinion for you since you have had CC??  I don't know if it changes things because you've already had CC or if with a new surgery you have a fresh start.  From what I've read, silicone has a higher incidence of CC. Best wishes with your decision!

No he hasnt really  given me an opinion yet-guess that is what we are doing the week before surgery. I was starting to lean toward silicone, (first time was saline), apparently silicone appears softer of which thrilled me also wouldn't have a giant grapefruit sticking out of my chest while the other breast hangs.-<<<<<<<UGH>>>>>>>>>>>>  PS told me that if I go with the silicone implant then I will have to follow up with routine MRI's-I was thinking that made sense and then I would be having routine MRI's and if there was something wrong anywhere else they would be able to catch it-dumb idea or not?  I Dont know.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have about 7 weeks to decide so Im sure that I will be on line here alot venting and trying to decide.

So let me appologize right now ladies cuz im sure that as the time gets closer to surgery I will be on here panicking.

lag, You can come here to panic anytime....I know I have!!!  LOL  As for the MRI, I think you are right on the money with that.  I also had a unilateral so I welcome any MRIs especially for my 'good' side.  I do have cohesive gel silicones and LOVE them.  They do feel very natural but they are very perky.  After MUCH thought and soul-searching, I did have my 'good' side lifted and augmented and I must say that I do have a great match. Even my PS and her PA marvel at how 'matched' they are....not sure why I am such a 'specimen' but everytime I'm there, they all come in to 'geez'.   I went into reconstruction holding my good side saying "don't touch it" but came out the other side (after a few months of creaative bra stuffing) yelling "JUST MAKE ME MATCH".  My good side was somewhat deflated from nursing and in need of a slight lift to make it match my new perky side.  I have NO regrets that I had it done.  I do understand though that you may not want them to touch your good side.  If you have any more questions, feel free to ask or PM me anytime.  Best wishes

Lag  - I know it is difficult to choose and I'm very sorry you have had a bad experience with saline implants.  I have had my 4th generation silicone (these are not the truly cohesive 5th generation "gummy bears" but people will use the word cohesive incorrectly when they refer to 3rd and 4th generation implants) for 6 months now without any problem.  I have moderate range, textured silicone but if I was to do this again (and I imagine I will) I would push for high as there isn't much projection with the ones I have they lay too flat against my chest.  I believe they all have the potential to capsular contraction so you need to ask your doc if one has a stronger potential towards capsular cont. than another.  But the 5th generation implants are only available through certain docs (they are still under trial).  Also several ps I have seen have instructed me to massage the implants so that it will reduce the possibility of capsular contraction.

I wish you better luck this time no matter which one you pick..  And the MRI's are a great idea for following whether there is a small tear in the implant as well as seeing other potential problems.  Best of luck to you!

Okay my opinion today is SILICONE-just the thought of them being able to catch things early on is a plus for me. I was not aware of the different kinds of silicone implants but thanks to you my sisters, I bet my ps will be shell shocked when I see him next and pretty much know the differences and what they do once implanted.

Thank you ladies!!!

Lag, Good luck with your appointment.  You still have plenty of time to research your options and go in 'armed and dangerous'....LOL!  I do really love my sils and wouldn't change a thing about them.  I do massage them (some actually call it displacement because it is a 'little' more aggressive than what most people think of as massage).  Vitamin E is also supposed to help prevent CC.  I have a mixed blessing too because some asthma meds help prevent it or can reverse the early stages of it (at least that's what the women and their PSs on the augmentation boards say).  I am on Singulair (which can be used for allergies too) and my PS said that was good for preventing CC. Ask your PS about Vit E and what he thinks since you have already had CC once. Keep asking questions and researching until you are comfortable.  Best wishes

Hi Lag,

I've had silicone for about 1 1/2 years (double mastectomy). I strictly went on my plastic surgeon's recommendation. I have been very happy with them. They are as close to "real" feeling as you can get.
They are Mentor high profile but not "gummy bear."

lag, 'gummy bear' implants are only available in the US thru a clinical trial and not all Drs have access to them.  They are the only TRULY cohesive gel implants although all silicone implants today are cohesive to some degree (not like the old oily silicones from the past). Cohesive means that the silicone is cross-linked and is more of a solid than a liquid.   The true 'gummy bear' implants are firmer than the less cohesive gel implants.  Hope that made sense!!!  LOL  Implants come in different profiles, Moderate which are wide and flat, midrange (also called moderate plus) which are not as wide as the mods and have more projection and High Profile which are generally narrower than the midrange but have more projection.  Best wishes

Well sugery is over (had it done on July 8th), I have high profile silicone-it dont look so high profile to  but it is squishy and now that is what my  good friends are calling me-it is kinda cute, but anyway my plastic surgeon also did a reduction on my right side, and that one hurts worse than the fake boob, cuz my nipple is so very sensitive-had to call today for pain meds because nothing else helps.

On the other hand my doctor released me back to work August 2nd, but my boss wont let me back and he hasnt told me that i am fired. Im filing workers comp as the reason i had to have this surgery again is because after my first surgery when i was back at work my stitches busted open just picking up a gallon of milk, maybe my boss is afraid of this happening again but he has no idea (yet) that im going after him for workers comp. im nervous but have an attorney who is handling it!!!

Thank you for letting me vent!!!

Lag, when you are up to responding, can you tell me how long that surgery was.  I am also doing my research so when the time comes I will be reading.  I just want normal bras.  I hate these bras that look like combat bras.  Anyhow, good luck.  Maryiz

Hello Maryiz  The surgery itself took about 3 hours, pain wasnt too bad afterwards, however a few hours ago I had to be taken to the emergency room as my breast that had the reduction started to bleed- turns out i have an infection so tomorrow must make the two hour trip up to my plastic surgeons office so he can examine my breast.

Best of luck to you Maryiz-let me know if i can be of anymore help whatsoever as i am home 24/7.
