Thank you for sharing - you look FABULOUS! Has it taken a while to know how to work with new curls? Do you use any styling products on it or do you just let it do its thang? Lisa |

In this picture I used some sculpting jell. I put on towel tried damp hair and just mess my fingers through it. I let it totally dry and then I just finger out the stiffness and then it is baby soft. I just purchased different kinds of headbands which I use to hold back the hair by the ears....then fluff the curls around the small headband. I am no expert when it comes to short curly hair....first in my lifetime. My hair was like the small picture to the left most of my life. Now I will experience all of the different lengths. I will post my progress now and then for fun. Love, Terry |

My chemo was last June 2006......4th treatment was on August 17, 2006. So in August 2007 it will be 1 year since last Chemo. I hope my hair makes it to 6 inches.....with these tight curls...it will shrink at least 2-3 inches....:) The hair color came back to the same shade as my eyebrows. I usually would lighten my hair about two shades. I may put small strands of highlights that are the shade of my gray hairs.......but I will not rush into it.......hair is baby fine....always has been.....but it could always dry full. Usually had to wash hair everyday when long...now I go for a couple of days with these curls....love that! Love Ya, Terry |

I SOOOO wanted my hair to come in curly. Yours is beautiful. my one year start date for chemo was 8/8 so I have a few months till I get to my one year post date. My hair is about 3 inches long and came back exactly the same ... straight, light ash brown with lots of grey. I've been using a level 1 color to cover the gray and don't notice a problem with the hair. It's still soft and I swear, some of the grey is leaving. I'm just learning how to post pictures, so I hope this works. Karen |

What a journey it has been for only six months dealing with hair loss but I got through it and never cried, not even the day I lost my hair. My hubby did cry when he saw my bald head. I asked him why was he crying, he said this really shows you are sick. Wild/Jan

WOW! Ladies! Your hair is all so beautiful! And so are you! Really! Thank you for sharing. It's hard to believe I will ever have hair again. I had my surgery in February and look like GI Jane at this point. I teach preschool and the kids do not even seem to notice. Gotta love the innocence of children!

ML-your hair looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness, ladies, my hair is making me nuts. I have straight hair on the right side, and curly hair on the left. I have this enormous curl that sticks out the side of my head, no matter what I do. I just want it long enough to put in a ponytail again!
Here I am bald as can be.....
This was my hair right after dx. I was in the midst of growing it out and for once really liked my hair.
Oh, I hope the pictures work. Not sure how to do this right..... Cancer took my breasts, but it did NOT take my spirit!

We are lovely and loved...thank you all for posting your pix....I don't really know how to do it so I will ask my 18 y/o son...i haven't worn a wig at all except for one week when I first went back to work. I had been under pressure by my boss to wear it. After a week of itchiness and being hot I said 'to hell with this' - and I've been 'commando' ever since...the kids at the pediatric hospital where I work love it as do the elderly volunteers... This was 11 months after the 1st chemo .... (4 rounds a/c .. then 12 rounds Taxol .... so it took a long time to start growing back)
This is now, but I keep cutting it up in the back so the top layers start catching up to the bottom so I can eventually have a type of bob style:

Wow ladies! Thanks for sharing such beautiful pictures. I finished chemo on September 7 and started taking my biotin to help promote healthy hair growth. If you look at my caringbridge pictures, I have 'mega' straight, fine hair. It will be interesting to see if any curl comes with the new hair. I really love looking at all your wonderful pictures. Thanks for sharing the bald ones as well. They are as much a part of our journey as everything else. Debbie You can visit my CaringBridge site at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/debbiecole

Hi Debbie, So, I guess we can't take Biotin until we are finished with chemo? Is that correct?? Well, I will start as soon as I'm able... I want to get a really good start on growing my hair back! Thanks for all the pics! Harley |

Harley, re: taking biotin, I think that's what I read somewhere on these boards. It seems oncologists want us to minimize what might conflict with our chemo treatments. I am a minimalist when it comes to taking vitamins and supplements but read that biotin is a great B vitamin for promoting hair growth and quality as well as for regrowth of nails. I was on taxotere so my nails have taken a beating. Debbie You can visit my CaringBridge site at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/debbiecole

Biotin....I thought that was what we took for mouth sores. Anyway.....can I just say this? I agree you all look great and happy. But, seeing this thread depressed me. I am one month and 4 days out of chemo. I guess I've got a lot longer than I thought before I can go without something on my head.

Traci, you are thinking of Biotene. http://www.laclede.com/ Yes, it's confusing. Biotin is a B vitamin. As far as nutritional supplements go, I think I was told that it was best to stay away from mega anti-oxidants while on chemo as they might interfere with effectiveness. My onc said nothing about discontinuing a regular, sensible multi-vitamin. However, I didn't take one before, so didn't start one during treatment. Hair regrowth is so variable. I can sure understand your impatience just to see *something* happening up there! And once it appears, you are counting the days until you can go au naturel again. That's me, too, only I'm probably three weeks from doing it. That's because it's just about at the critical point of looking like real hair and because I have to go topless in mid-October because of a trip I'm taking. So, a deadline is imposed no matter WHAT my hair has in mind. LOL Take heart, it will happen. Just not overnight, like the way it went. Tina |
