Hope I get some feed back. Does anyone know what happens after Femara?  I am confused because there is nothing written about what comes next.  I am 5 years NED State 2, 14 nodes removed only the first was bad. 6 CAT treatments and 7 weeks of rads. I had a bi-lateral mastectomy.

A good question, Mike!

I saw reference to male menopause being real just last week.

What do you think?

I'm sorry I don't always include men in comments here but I know you are here too, Mike. That's rude on my part, sorry, because we're an inclusive group here.

All the best to you,
Tender

Hi armadillo1,

I just saw your post. Congratulations on your success with five years of Femara and good health!

I'm about the same time frame as you, and finished five years of Arimidex. My oncologist confirmed there is no clear answer to "ok, 5 years done with an AI, know what?". Because I was node positive, I preferred to stay on a hormonal, and choose Femara. Aromasin would have been good too, offering a slight change in type of AI which may prove beneficial, as well as staying on Arimidex.

Anyway, there's no clear answer that I know of to your dilemma. There is a clinical trail, the NSABP-42 which is randomizing women who have completed 5 years of Femara or combination Tamoxifen/Femara to an additional five years of placebo or Femara that is actively recruiting. Maybe you might discuss this with your oncologist.

It's a great question. You may wish to look through the hormone threads for additional responses as it's been discussed before.

Good luck to you,
Tender

Hi,

There are 4-5 different aromatase inhibitors. If you need to try another one ask your doc. He or she will have some suggestions.

armidillo, Unfortunately they just don't know.  Some oncologists are erring on the side of caution and prescribing past the 5 years.  Since you also had a positive node, you might want to discuss Tender's protocol with your oncologist.  I guess it also depends on how you feel about or how well you fared (side effect-wise) on Femara whether or not you'd want to continue on Femara or switch to Arimidex or Aromasin or do nothing.  Let us know what your oncologist says and what you decide.  I think there are probably a lot of women in this boat with you.  I have 3 years to go before I have to make this decision.  Best wishes

Wow.............I wish I knew what lies, also!  I did 2 years Tamoxofin and have been on Femara for 2 years......................I honestly can't wait to be done with it and hopefully feel better..........................but I have no idea if Onc is planning on turning me loose in April or prolonging the 'fun'..............It'll be interesting to see how all of us fare with this one!

Sorry, Mike for the embarrassing oversight on my part.

I ask your pardon. Point well made and taken.

Thanks,
