I would like to know from as many of you as I can, After a double mastectomy did you have the nipple reconstruction done, how did it turn out, and how do you like it? And the same for the ladies that did not and only had the tattooing done afterwards. Thanks gals. Your feedback really helps.

I had the nipple recon and also the tattoo's I am very pleased. I thought about not doing the tattoo's but was getting some tweaking done and the tattoo artist was available. They look really natural!!! The tattoo also conceals the tiny scar around the nipples. |

Hi there Bieg: I had bilat with reconstruction as well.... had surgery for nipples...minimal protrusion at the beginning and within a month next to nothing. However, instead of areolas I decided to get tattoos.. I went to Donn in New Orleans... he does tattoos for the breast reconstruction centre there and he designed the 3 D tattoos. Since I already had nipples I decided to have real tattoos and now I have a beautiful work of art on my chest. |

I also had nipple reconstruction and tatooing done. The nipples protruded quite a bit at first, yet over time have majorly shrunken down, but it doesn't bother me. The tatoo makes it look like the nipples are still there. I was amazed once the tatoo was done, because you didn't notice the breast scars as much when your eye has something to distract it. If I had to do it all over again, I might have skipped the nipple reconstruction and just has the tatoo done, Lisa PS. Hi5's tatoos look awesome. |

Hi there: I had bilateral mast June 2007. I just had nipples done on April 3rd with tattoos scheduled for this September (after the summer). So far my nips look good. The right one looks a little flatter than the left but very slight. I am planning to finish with tattoo and then leave it all alone. I know the tatts help with the scars and that in itself will make it all come together. Debbie Time to Live!

hi, I had a mastectomy 4 weeks ago. I had a tram reconstruction at the same time. I am glad that reconstruction was at the same time. I suspect it would be very hard for me to do a second surgery. There are limited scares. I have a tummy tuck out of the deal and its all me. I'm not kidding myself there's lot of down time. A lot of manageable pain but we will survive They will tattoo in two months the pictures I've seen look great. A FRIEND Had this done I could not tell the differance. Stay positive you are here. |

I had my TRAM flap reconstruction done two years ago -- haven't gone back for nipples because it was just such a huge surgery. So I'll be watching this thread since this topic is seriously on my mind right now! www.pinkribbonreview.com

Beig, My PS made nipples from skin on breast and aureole from skin at bikini line. with this surgery, there is no need for tatoo since skin is differnt color. The nipple makes a huge differnce in appearance and you mental state. I waited over 1 year to have it done- just not ready for another surgery before that. it was such a small surgery, and such a wonderful improvement, I wished I had done earlier. Karen- My PS is in Darien CT-Passarretti. who is yours? Take care all Susan Dx 8/8/2005, IDC, , Stage IIb, Grade 2, 1/8 nodes, ER-/PR-, HER2- |
