I have been on celexa for over 2 years now. Only side effects I had were being tired for the first 4 weeks. Otherwise I have tolerated it very well and yes, it has saved me from many breakdowns. It just kinda takes off the edge allowing me to cope more easily with anything that life throws my way - oh and as a added benefit, it helps with the hot flashes too.
hugs and chocolate xx

Hi Susan-I've been taking Celexa since 2002 and yes it does help with the depression and anxiety. I think it also helped with some post-traumatic stress symptoms after my first cancer in 1999. It does take the edge off. When I first took it, I was a little groggy but my body got used to it. I've actually been able to tolerate a low dose since 2002. Since 2006 I've added Klonopin (clonozapem) for insomnia and irritability. I've had a hard time with irritability after chemopause. It's worked wonders for me. Take care.
