Yes, there have been some on-going studies in Australia with a couple of drugs. The results have not been good. The drugs were not especially effective, they take months or years to show any effect, and have serious side effects. You can read about drugs tried for LE in the NLN's Position Paper on LE Treatment. Right-hand side of the page, near the bottom, among the Position Papers: www.lymphnet.org The current area of reseach where drugs are concerned has to do with new indications that LE may be an inflammatory condition, so certain anti-inflammatories might help, but so far they've had no success. This is a very new idea, though, so hopefully they'll make some progress with this. It's neat to think that the strategic use of these drugs might someday even prevent LE! In the meantime, we do have excellent tools available to control the swelling and reduce infection risk. Not easy, but there are no drug side-effects either--yes! Phillygirl, I hope you're seeing some progress with your efforts. Do hang in there and spend the effort to regain some control over this rotten condition. You're worth it! Be well! Binney |

I don't know, if I recall, there were several women on that site (it was two years ago) who were using this medication. Darn, I wish I could remember the name of it! Anyway, I have an appointment Monday with an LE doctor at FCCC. We shall see. I also want to get that Flexitouch machine. I was turned down by BC/BS two years ago and I see that someone on this board was approved by them! I am furious! I have downloaded that post about appealing decisions, as well. |
