Hi All

I'm new here.  I have secondary lymphoedema in both arms following breast cancer.  Binney4 has asked me to post this message here.  It's mainly for British visitors to this site.....

I have just had a petition accepted onto the Downing Street Petitions website.  The petition calls for more recognition of the suffering of people with both primary and secondary lymphoedema and for more money for treatment, education of healthcare professionals and research.  The link to sign (where you can also read the full text of the petition) is:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/lymphoedema/

Hopefully the petition will, at the very least, help to raise the abysmally low profile that lymphoedema has and the more signatures it gets, the better!

Please remember that you MUST be a British citizen (expat is fine - there is a drop down box to check instead of entering of a UK postcode) or UK resident to sign.  No other details apart from your name will appear on the petition.

Thanks for your support!

Good on you, Bahon.

Successive governments have ignored many health issues for far too long. Not this one now!

Hi Binney - thanks for moving the petition to the top again!

I'd like to thank everyone who has taken the trouble to sign, and to pass the word on, so far.

If you haven't signed, please consider doing so.  If you have, can you think of any others (British citizens/UK residents only) who might want to?  Friends, family, colleagues, carers, therapists?

Thanks again!

I will add this as it seems appropriate to the topic -

In California - there has been a cap put on malpractice lawsuits.  Because of this, unless the negligence or harm has caused the patient to die prematurely, attorneys will not pick up the case stating that the cost of trying malpractice exceeds the award.

This has caused what I believe an apathy among physicians.  Their malpractice insurance premiums are "cheap" according to one doctor I spoke with about this.

I feel that other people in other states should know that a cap on malpractice (medical) is a dangerous thing - as it can cause physicians who do make errors that cause a patient harm to not be financially reprimanded (sending a signal to other medical professionals).

So, before this Calif. trend continues, be sure to take an active involvement in your state in stopping the "cap" on medical malpractice (25,000 for punitive plus loss of job and medical expenses).  It is easier to stop than reverse laws such as this.

Hi all

I just wanted to let everyone know that the petition now has no less than 200 signatures on it!  This is significant, as the Government is obliged to formulate a reply (everyone who has signed will be e-mailed a link to where they can go to read it) to any petition containing 200 or more signatures - I believe this normally happens when the petition closes, which is January next year.

So, once again a big 'thank you' to everyone who has taken the trouble to sign, and is getting others to do the same, and also to the LSN who very kindly publicised the petition in the latest edition of 'Lymphline'.

You MUST be either a British Citizen (expat is fine) or UK resident to sign.

For anyone new to the board, here is the link again:

Just a quick update on the petition!

(   http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/lymphoedema/    )

It now has over 300 signatures.

Thanks to all the Brits/UK residents (patients, friends, family, carers, colleagues) who have given their support by signing.
