I am on SSDI and I am stage IIB. You won't get an automatic approval like stage 4 but it is possible to get depending on what Diagnosis's you are basing it on. In my case Breast Cancer was one contributing factor of many; resulting in additional debilitation, inability to focus, and inability to carry on the daily functions or carry on gainful employment My primary DX was Reflex Sympathetic Dystophy aka Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, although there must have been at least five other diagnosis. It takes alot of time and the forms seem to be overwhelming when you are debilitated. We had to get permission from SSD for my sister to help--so debilitated was I that it never would have been completed otherwise. (I'm sure thats how many legitimate applicants fall through the cracks) I would tell you to keep a daily journal of everything you are having difficulty with and why. Don't minimize anything---Tell it like it is----You don't know what they will consider important and frankly when you get to that application you won't remember all that you need to tell them. Also keep all your appointments. If you have a psychologist or psychiatrist all the better, because these are different components of a DX they will be looking at and they will ask for info from them. In fact if you don't have one they will send you to their own. They will want you to see a PCP within 3 mos of your app. Again if you don't use yours, you will wind up at theirs. Its all a matter of documenting and once that is finished it your medical records are reviewed by SSDI's reviewer's whom for the most part are Physiatrists trained in body mechanics and functioning and are specialist in medications and their side effects. The more you can document, the easier it will be for SSD to make a determination. Good Luck Susie |
