There was a recent study indicating that 2-3 cups of coffee a day actually lowered some women's risk of developing breast cancer. Moderation is key Roxy -- I really don't believe an occassional cup is problematic (says the woman who drinks 3 cups a day). Karen M. Lynch

Here is my theory.....ENJOY life. If you like coffee, have a cup. If you like wine, have a glass. If you like chocolate HAVE SOME! Life is too short to live like a monk and give up all physical pleasure. This week the "experts" may say that coffee is bad, then next week they may decide it is good. To heck with them. Just my opinion.... Deb C http://glassylady41.spaces.live.com/

I love alaskadebs' answer, and she is so right, enjoy what you want in moderation, I found that anytime I've tried to stop eating or drinking something I wanted it more so now if I want it I have it and get the craving overwith. I didn't know there was a problem with coffee though. I'm addicted to tea and the bad thing about that is I add brown sugar and cream to it, so I have to slow down with it but if I tried to stop it's all I would think about. Good luck with your choices. Amen to all the above! Glad to see am not the only one who needs her coffee fix! It's a ggggreat smell to come back to after the "school run" and, as a triple neg, it's got to be one of my few true allowed cravings I can still enjoy without question. I also heard about that latest study indicating that it could be beneficial for some. So, am sticking with that study no matter what. I agree! Too heck with the experts for sure. I cringed when I read about the link between alcohol and breast cancer (I might have about 2 drinks per week if that), and then I realized that I knew a lot of alcoholics that never got any kind of cancer. Life is too short, Roxy. Don't overthink all this stuff, or it could drive you insane. Eat and drink in moderation and try to get in some exercising (walking, etc.) and above all else, surround yourself with people who make you smile. Hugs Bobbie Every day is a blessing...

I agree with everyone else. I am not a coffee drinker but if I were I would continue to drink it. I do drink a small can (8 oz) of Mountain Dew almost every morning. I ran it by my docs and they said, not a problem. I know so many "healthy" eaters and drinkers who got bc so I figure there is not reason to stress. And, Deb is correct. If I have learned nothing else over the last 2 years and 4 months (but who's counting?) you have to enjoy life! I switched to decaf before my surgery and have been drinking it since. Can't quite do the no sugar thing but I have gone to raw sugar. I didn't realize until my brother told me that some decaf's are chemically processed and that I needed to look for a coffee that said naturally decaffinated. But I believe what Deb said, moderation is the key. Dx 11/25/2005, ILC, , Stage IIIc, 14/17 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

The French have long put coffee in the same category as dark chocolate and red wine. They say it contains anti free radicals, and is good for you. The French drink enormous amounts of strong, aromatic coffee every day. So do the Italians. And the Turks. And the Greeks. And Spaniards. I could go on and on. Yet women from those countries do not have higher rates of BC than we do in the USA. You know what? I'm beginning to believe that all this stuff linking one disease or another to the ingestion of certain foods or to a particular lifestyle is a bunch of unmitigated hooey. I believe more and more strongly that we simply don't KNOW what causes BC, autism, MS, or whatever -- probably a combination of factors both environmental and genetic. However, being practical, problem-solving Americans who need to be in control, we have a visceral need to look for correlations, explanations, justifications so we can fix things. My new philosophy of living is to do whatever the heck I darn well please. So there. I spent most of my life being careful, abstemious (all my protestations of being a wine lover nonwithstanding), i.e., being "good." I don't eat meat, keep my weight within normal limits, tromp the treadmill, shun fast food and prepared meals, had my kids young and breast fed them until I feared they'd become permanent attachments to my body. Look where it got me. Pass the coffee, please. And the wine. And the apple pie a la mode. Hugs, Annie |

Very well-said Annie. I think if the docs could show me a strong connection based on sound science between diet/alcohol and anything else and BC, I would avoid it. But they can't, and I'm not going to deny myself because someone cooked up an idea and put it out there. Dx 9/30/2004, IDC, 3cm, Stage IIb, Grade 2, 1/17 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

Giving up coffee is NOT an option----I believe that everyone kind of feels the same way---MODERATION. Life is short. jdash, why would they tell us triple negs to stay away from soy products? I thought the thing about us was that our bc was not hormone driven and strictly bad luck.
