I had my annual CT Scan last week. Onc picked up nodules in lining of both lungs. She asked radiologists to compare with last CT, and they said that it was there, but that it has not changed in the last year. My onc says it looks like breast ca to her, but since it has been stable and my tumour markers are normal, we are not going to do anything. We should follow up with another scan in 6 months. I am freaking out! I hate not doing anything constructive to get rid of them completely, and do not know how I'll get through the next 6 months! Has anybody had a similar experience? I can not find anything on mets in lining of lungs. I need to know that this is the best way to go. I do not want to go for the scan in 6 mnths and find out it has grown significantly....

I'd be freaking, too, Liezel! I have heard that there are MANY b9 lung modules out there...so the fact that they have not changed since your last CT (when was it?) makes me wonder if you should push for a biopsy. Check with the mets girls....see if they have any ideas for you. Not changing in a year is a good sign. My husband has lung nodules and they determined they were benign by doing follow-up scans and seeing no change. For my husband the follow-ups were 6 months later, so a year seems very encouraging. Still, your onc's comments must be worrisome. I think if he really is concerned, he should be more aggressive with the testing to rule out cancer. Otherwise, he shouldn't be thinking out loud. I agree with the comments. If they have not changed for a year, they are probably b9. My liver spot did not chnage during the two months of chemo and my onc said it was b9 because it was stable. That said, your onc should not be talking like this. If for some reason, she thinks it is bc, six months is too long to wait and she should do whatever testing is needed and if it is b9, she should shut up and not make comments like this. Liezel, I have a nodule on my lung. It hasn't changed for over six months, so they are going to watch it and scan every few months. They feel confident that it isn't cancer because it hasn't changed for six months. My tumor markers are normal also. Lungs are sometimes hard to biopsy, so they will often watch and see. You onc shouldn't be predicting what is going on inside you until she has more concrete answers. It could be a number of things...scarring from a serious cold, asthema, or even some sort of fungus. My mother has spots on her lungs also, she had cancer, but her spots are from asthema. |
