Hi all. I am posting for my sister. In Nov. 2006, she was diagnosed with Stage IIIa breast cancer in right breast. She had 52 lymph nodes removed and all cancerous. She has had a mastectomy. She also had cancer of the nose. She finished her treatment in July 2007.

Yesterday, her doc was checking her and found a sore lymph node. Doc doesn't think it's anything to be concerned about but she wants my sister to get an MRI and ultrasound to make sure. My sister has been under the weather lately. I'm very worried. My sister had catscan last month that showed nothing and mammo in November that came back fine.

Should I be worried? Does sore lymph node happen often? I've had a sore lymph node under my arm once b/c I was just sick. Do cancerous lymph nodes hurt?

Thanks for your help.

Morgaine,

My cancerous nodes didn't hurt but my breast tumor did (usually tumors don't hurt).  I'm not sure you can draw conclusions based on that.  The fact that the recent CAT scan was clear is a good sign, though.  It could very well be that your sister is fighting an infection, especially as it's been less than a year since the end of treatment.  It sounds like your sister's oncologist is playing it safe by having it checked out.  They tend to do that.  It's hard waiting and not knowing.  I hope the doctor is right that it's nothing.

Best,

If your sister has been under the weather that may be why she has a sore lymph node -- some kind of viral thing may be going on. I think it would be more troubling if she had a problematic lymph node but felt fine.

My breast tumor was also achy but I never felt a thing with my positive node.

Hi all. My sis's sore lymph node turned out to be nothing. She was just sick and it hurt. She is very happy. Thanks for listening.
