From one Nancy to another...you may mean well with this post, but it has been debunked and denounced. It is a redacted email from several spurrious sites. Dr. Fujimoto is a PhD, not a medical doctor. Johns Hopkins did not send this information out. Good nutrition is not enough to prevent cancer. Good immune systems are not enough to prevent cancer. Different cancers feed on different things. Some of the things suggested might actually encourage cancer growth such as soy in women who have a tendancy towards ER+ breast cancer. I don't necessarily think meat is a culprit either. We are, after all, omnivores. |

Thank you NancyD - I saw this information online quite a while ago, and though I'm no scientist, I recognized immediately that it wasn't based on real "science". I believe it is based instead on Eastern traditional medical practices and common sense, some of which is good healthy advice anyway - but certainly when it comes to preventing and/or curing cancer, this information is not helpful - and may actually be hurtful to people who DID everything possible and STILL got cancer. I'm thinking "Why Bad things happen to Good people".......I also recall Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis who died from pancreatic cancer - she said she did everything "right" - healthy nutrition all her life, supplements, etc - it certainly wasn't her FAULT she got cancer. ![]() 3/3/08 Right-side mastectomy with immediate Diep

Let's not kill it. :) Let's allow it to hang out there, swinging in the wind. That way, it can be properly debunked by follow-up posts. FWIW, here's a helpful site for checking the authenticity of things you hear or read about on the internet: http://www.snopes.com/ otter Dx 1/14/2008, IDC, 1cm, Stage I, Grade 2, 0/3 nodes, ER+/PR-, HER2- |

Guess what I just found?? It was right on the main website for JH medicine. <table width="100%"><tbody><tr><td>HEADLINE: Email Hoax Regarding Cancer</td></tr><tr><td>Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center EMAIL HOAX REGARDING CANCER An email falsely attributed to Johns Hopkins describing properties of cancer cells and suggesting prevention strategies has begun circulating the Internet. Johns Hopkins did not publish the email, entitled "Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins," nor do we endorse its contents. For more information about cancer, please read the information on our web site or visit the National Cancer Institute's web site at http://www.cancer.gov/. Another hoax email that has been circulating since 2004 regarding plastic containers, bottles, wrap claiming that heat releases dioxins which cause cancer also was not published by Johns Hopkins. More information. -JHM- </td></tr></tbody></table> |

Sorry that I caused anger. I assure you I meant no harm. I got it from a good friend who just lost his wife and was circulating it. I will be careful not to post anything like it again. Sorry:( Dx 10/9/2006, ILC, 1cm, Stage I, Grade 2, 0/2 nodes, ER+/PR-, HER2- |

IllinoisNancy, I don't think anyone here was angry about your post. It's just that we see so many things on the web that sound so helpful, and then they turn out to be untrue. It's important to find out whether such things are legitimate, and let people know when they aren't, especially if the information is being directed toward a "vulnerable" group like women with BC. It's too bad people find it necessary to create hoaxes like that email and perpetuate them on the web. We all get sucked in once in awhile. otter Dx 1/14/2008, IDC, 1cm, Stage I, Grade 2, 0/3 nodes, ER+/PR-, HER2- |

I agree, IllinoisNancy -- we're not angry with you! I think a lot of us have already seen that letter posted and then debunked on this site alone at least 3 times before, so we're just "on it" Dx 3/9/2007, IDC, <1cm, Stage I, Grade 2, 0/5 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |
