I know I'm jumping the gun here since my chemo protocol is still not established. However, how soon does radiation begin after one finishes chemo?

Hi-I was told I would start radiation 3-4 wks post chemo. The reason they wait that long is to let you recover from chemo a little longer...since chemo zaps our energy and radiation does a little too. Dx 2/8/2008, IDC, 1cm, Stage I, Grade 2, 0/7 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

My doc had me wait about three weeks. Your blood counts can actually be lowered from rads, so they want you to heal and rebuild your resources. There are a lot of Pre-Rad stuff that has to be done during that time off. You have to get mapped, which is them figuring out exactly where the radiation beams will go. This takes a couple of visits to the rad center. You will also get tatoos. They are just tiny blue dots that look like ballpoint pen marks, they use them to line up the measurements the mapping figured out. Once you start, though, the actual rad appointment takes about 5 minutes! Good luck! g nosurrenderbreastcancerhelp.com
