Found a great cream called biafine from my dermatologist.  She burned a few things off my forehead (I grew up in FL) and recommended this stuff.  I hesitated due to cost but insurance covered a lot of it.  Out of pocket was 16$.  Pharmacist told me it was created for radiation patients.   Don't know if you can use it on breasts.  Had to call a few pharmacies to order, then purchase.  It's not like neosporin, contains no antibiotic, it worked very well and those 3 sores on my head went away lickety split.

I'm having trouble deciding on course of treatment for some really minimal DCIS and found her comments regarding radiation patients comforting should I choose that therapy.

Amy, I was given Biafine for radiation treatment. I believe that it worked well but don't know what it would have been with other creams. I liked the consistency, that's why I used it over other recommended ointments. I was lucky that my center just gave me as many tubes as I needed.

I am almost done with radiation tx for dcis. I had grade 3. I thought about skipping it but my % recurrence stats were too high for comfort. Your oncologist should be able to tell you how you stand in the statistics and it may help you make a choice. It may be a no brainer if you had low grade, tiny lesion, large margins, etc. I know... stats are only numbers... but that is all we have, well no, there are also your gut feelings, but I have learned not to trust mine. My onc also had some experiences that made me choose radiation vs no radiation.

Best of luck.

Hi Amy, I was also given the Biafine for my radiation tx. I believe it is working. I am only slightly pink now and I am halfway through my tx.  I tried the aquaphor after one session and I didn't like it as I felt it kept the heat in and left me pinker that time. So I'll stick with the Biafine.

I was also a grade 3 and felt radiation increased my odds.

I used Biafine during radiation.  It worked great.  My radiologist gave me enough samples to get me though.  I debated as well to get radiation.  My DCIS was found incidentally during breast surgery for something else.  It was stage 0.  My surgeon who presented my case to other specialists all felt that even though it was taken out, there is no certainty there can't be others in other parts of the breast.  So I had it done as a preventative measure.

My rad onc prescribed Xclair cream which has a very nice consistency. They gave me a few samples. Has anyone here heard of that one?
