Hi Ladies - I posted for the first time in many months on another thread - advertising my 4 year survival.  Several mentioned the encouragement they gained from my post and others like it.  Being 4 years out, and being young - I just don't discuss my medical history with people very often.  Well, today at work, I found out that one of my co-workers is a triple neg - she had 2 lumps, mast, 5 pos nodes - and she was DX in 12/03  She is FINE!   She had a mast and 6 rounds of TAC.  She worked through it all (teaching elementary school) - she had rads too.  Her onco told her 3 years was the magic number for triple negs.  (My onco said 5)

Anyway - if some of you were lifted by MY story, you must be much further lifted by my friend's!   5 Nodes - and she is fine!   Yippee....

Jeng,

Thank you for a wonderful post.  Girl's let those doctor's know you are not a statistic in their medical books.  They can't lump everyone together. Even though they will not tell you..triple neg means they really don't what kind of bc we have.

Thank you so much for your story and that of your friend. I have been very down over the past few days because from everything I read and no matter where I turn, there's nothing but bad, bad, bad news about triple negatives. I think that even more than women with other types of BC, we triple negs really hunger for stories like yours -- they keep our hopes alive, and hope, as much as the chemo and other medical procedures, is what helps fuel recovery.

Thanks again from the bottom of my heart.

This is so crazy, I know it is not wrong to tell the stats, but when I was diagnosed in 1998, Triple Neg diagnosis had just become possible, and few statistics were available. So, no one said much of anything. I know that sticking your head in the sand is no solution, but I have never worried about the Triple Neg at all, just because I didn't know I should.

Anyway, I am 9 & 1/2 years out, still fine, and I am so sorry that this thing has added grief to an already difficult time. Oh, one other thing, that we don't want our other sisters to hear. At first, they realized that Tamoxifien increased chances of us developing uterine cancer, but no one was too concerned because this cancer is easy to find and simple to treat, but as the years have gone by, they found that THIS particular uterine cancer, the one from Tamoxifen, was VERY, VERY aggressive. So that is another thing. (Don't mention this to gals on Tamoxifen)

Anyway, love you all, Shirlann

Hello Ladies,

I am also a triple neg. AND BRCA 1 AND BRCA 2 positive! I will be a 6 years survivor in June!!!!!!!!!!!  I had one positive node!  I also (THANK GOD) did not realize the trip neg was something to worry about. Lord knows I was a nervous wreck all the time in the beginning and worried about EVERYTHING already. I was only 26 and had a newborn. But, I want to let you all know that I heard soooo many success stories. One I held onto REAL tight was from a friend's sister.  She was also a triple neg (I think, I know she was def Er/pr neg) and she had 17, yup not a typo, 17 positive nodes. She is a 12 year survivor to date!  So keep your head up ladies.  I love hearing the positives........

I don't want 3 negs. to think it's all bad. I was first diagnosed in 8/95 at age 32. I was good to go until 1/07 when I found another lump on the other breast. It's now 4/08 and as far as I'm concerned, I'm fine again. This time, I removed the breasts.

Oh and did I mention that I'm BRCA 1.

Sharon,

Brilliant news although I am sad to hear that you had to remove your breasts. I removed mine in Jan 2008 when I found the lump and it was cancer.

I will be checked for BRCA1 in a couple of weeks... I do not know how long it will take to get the result.

I have 2 effected lymphnodes as well so I thought everything was dark for me... but as you write Life is good!!!

Thanks for sharing!

You give me spirit!

I was diagnosed on 2/4/08 triple neg and I just completed Cycle 1 of 6. Taxotere and Cytoxin.  Cycle 2 will include neulasta.  I love all these positive comments!!  My Onc told me there was nothing but negative stuff on the internet for triple negs.   I was glad to prove him wrong.  Peace and Blessings to all my sisters (and the few brothers)
