I started Femara a little over a month ago. Was on Tamox. for 1 1/2 years. During the tamox. time I had a hysterectomy so I was already in menopause (early-thanks to bc). Anyway, within the last month I have gained weight (close to 10 lbs!) (I never have had trouble with weight) despite working out/running. I am cranky (maybe because I have gained weight-who knows) and the worst part of it is that I am so tired all the time. I don't think I felt this tired during chemo. Just had thyroid checked and that is not the issue. Endo thinks it is the combo of Femara and menopause.
My question to all of you: Will the weight gain and tiredness level off or get better after a while. I had hardly any side effects from Tamox. and even with chemo I only had minor ones. I have no joint pain but would trade that for some energy. I have 3 young children and the tired feeling I have is really starting to take a toll on me. By the way, not taking Femara is not an option. I was 95% er+.

Femara makes me tired too. It helps to take it before bed instead of in the morning....at least, it helped me. I've been taking it for almost 2 years and my side effects have changed several times now. Best wishes |

My side effects rotate around my body about every 3 months. When one goes away a new one pops up. I recently changed to taking my Femara before bed and I must say it seems to help me sleep. I think I have a bit more energy throughout the day. I was able to lose 29 pounds on Femara but I have gained it all back now. I just joined Curves this week and I really enjoy it. I am hoping it will help my joint issues as well as help me lose some weight. I have been on Femara for just over a year. We are all in God's caring hands, BrendaBMD

I have been on femara now since March,,,I first tried Aromaisn terrible bone pain and depression so then was put on Arimidex still the bad pain so He then put me on tamoxifen, I had side effects with it but it was toleable until I had a mini stroke,,,so that is when he put me on the femara, So far I haven't experienced to much pain. I have been suffering from Chronic fatigue for 8 months now so Don't know if the femara is causing amymore fatigue than I already have. I take my femara at night also. I am a 2 year survivor now since May 8th which is great,!!!!! Now if I can just get rid of the fatigue!!!!! I just don't know what has caused it, Some of my doctors think it is just one of the side effects from the chemo and rads but I just don't think so it has lasted to long!!! Is anyone out there having problems with fatigue since all the treatments? sfj |
