I originally had a lumpectomy in April , now my surgeon is referring me to the Gene testing at my request (Mom had DCIS @ 45).  I have not started rads yet, 2nd consult this Monday with Onc.

If I test positive, I may consider the Proph mast (I'm 37).

I'm asking because I want to know if I  have a mast , radiation can be avoided in my case , but is tamox therapy still the recommendation?

I had bilateral mast for DCIS and ADH in both breasts.  No rads.  In my case, I have no family history or other risk factors and was 36 at diagnosis.  I was not tested for the BRCA genes.    It has been my research that Tamoxifen is usually not warranted after a bilateral mastectomy.   If you have a single mastectomy, they usually recommend it to reduce chance of cancer in other breast.  My oncologist says that I can take it if I "want to".   It won't decrease my chances by that much, and then may increase risk of uterine cancer, blood clots, etc.  Not to mention possible side effects.  So far, I've chosen not to take it.

Im thinking even if you have your ovaries out.  That they would receoomend A Hormon treatment...If the Ovaries are out- You would probably take an AI not Tamox.

Let us know what they tell you.

Ok, Now I see you are DCIS.   So that could change things.
