Does anyone else get this? I have had a red sore almost like an ulcer up my nose for months and months- think it came after the chemo and I still have it. When I blow my nose there's blood. Sorry about that-it had to be said!!

Hey Deb_ there are a couple of things that can cause sores like that. Chemo lowers your imune system and little things can cause big problems. The same virus that causes cold-sores on your lips, herpes simplex (sp?) Can cause sores in your nose. If that is what it is, your doc should be able to tell you, a course of an anti viral drug like valtrex can sometimes get rid of it. Hope that helps! Sores in the nose HURT! Yes, while on herceptin my nose would bleed everytime I blew my nose. I also had a small fever blister appear (either in my nose or lips) each time I had a herceptin infusion. Dx 12/6/2006, IDC, 1cm, Stage I, Grade 3, 0/9 nodes, ER-/PR-, HER2+ |

Yes, everytime I blow my nose I have blood. As to the sores, I got a bad one on my eye and in my nose. I tried hot compresses of the eye as it is like a sty but it didn't help. After some reading, I found that the eyelash was probably blocking the follicle. I pulled it (they were really coming out anyway), that opened up the follicle, it drained, and the pain when away. I applied the same logic to my nose sore as it was clear that I had lost most of my hair in my nose. Once I pulled a hair from the sore it went away. But it depends whether you can see and reach it, of course. And sterlize your tweezers with some alcohol before trying. As to the snotty, bloody nose, I begain using saline spray really often and it has helped. I use it in the shower too and do a kinda of nasal irrigation. It has reduced the blood, snot and discomfort and is a easy cheap fix. Hope this helps. Hugs, Deb Dx 12/1/2007, IDC, 5cm, Stage IIIa, Grade 2, / nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2+ |

Well, I started with bloody clots from the nose when I started AC right after Xmas. It continued throughout AC, and has continued with Taxol and Herceptin. I was thinking it was the Taxol currently, but maybe it's the Herceptin. Oh well. Only 2 more Taxols, so I'll know soon. Worry is a misuse of the imagination.

Hi Deb, I still have trouble with nose sores, too!! I even had the ENT md cauterize it twice. He also gave me a great tip!!! Put a tiny dab of bacitracin on your finger and keep this on sore and it will soften and, eventually go away!!! I havent had to go back to see the ENT so it seems to be working!!! Certains times of year and it seems to come back like Spring and Fall. Maybe its a change of season thing!!! I have had this since starting Herceptin for 2.5 yrs now.I hope that helps!!! Pat |
