I posted under a separate email about my breast lumps and lung nodules. My GYN wants me to go see a Breast Surgeon about the "suspicious breast lumps."
My appt. is this Friday afternoon. What happens at one of these appts. What should I ask? Can you tell I am a bit freaked about it all. My DH is on a business trip and won't be back until late Fri so I have to go by myself. Yikes.
Anyway, what shoud I know?
Thanks.

Your surgeon will order and get all your films, studies and such and have them before you get there. He will look at the areas of concern, and tell you his recommendations. I had three areas of concern. The surgeon told me that neither a fine needle biopsy nor a stereotactic biopsy would work for me (and he drew pictures to explain why). He told me he strongly recommended having 3 wire guided excisional biopsies, which he did yesterday. After I talked with the surgeon at the original consultation, his nurse asked me if there were any dates coming up that would be bad for me. She said she needed to coordinate the doctor's schedule with radiology (for the wire placement) and with the OR. She called me the next day with the date and times for my surgery and for my pre-op testing. You'll be fine, I didn't take my husband with me either. Your surgeon should explain exactly what he recommends, why he thinks that's the best option for you, and he should take the time to answer any questions you might have. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you Friday! Please keep us posted, and come back whenever you have any questions, want to vent, or share your anxiety, or just hang out with people who understand. I am a little late updating but wanted to follow through. I did see the Breast Surgeon. He has scheduled me for several ultrasounds this Friday. We will go from there, review the results, and he may do some biopsies right there (using the ultrasound), he may schedule an MRI or he may say they are all cystic lumps and get out of here. That would be the best option. He found more lumps under my arm, on my chest, and on the right breast. I think there are too many to be any thing to worry about. Sure hope I am right! I will update again. Thanks for your help. |
