Lisa:  I went the next day....why wait? Call your dr and let him/her know you want to be scheduled asap.  The sooner you know what you're dealing with, the faster you'll get a treatment plan in place.  Good luck and post when you can...you're in my prayers,

Good luck, Lisa.

I had a Birads 5 result from one of my mammograms and it turned out to be a totally benign hyperplasia - here's hoping the same to you.

That Number just tells what type of follow up, as they can't tell from the mammo WHAT the mass is, only that one is there and is suspicious.

so?  Did you have the bx on the 20th?

Just to let you know, my biopsy went pretty well on Tuesday... a little pain, but certainly tolerable.  I now know my spots are each under 1 cm and close together and not near my chest wall or gland.  The radiologist also told me the lymphnodes look okay, but she cannot say for sure, only the biospy will tell.  I was back at work yesterday.  They got what they needed and now the loooong wait for the results next Tuesday... keep your fingers crossed for me.

I have a BiRads 5, 7 mm "highly suspicious" area.  I meet with my Dr. this Wednesday for an exam and to arrange for the biopsy.  I've been waiting for a week now.  Being a nurse makes it scarier.  The biopsy will be this week.  What is a needle biopsy like?

The needle biopsy is not bad. It's literally just a needle. No worse than having an IV started.  The hard part is waiting for the results.

On a needle biopsy-if you have any pain-complain! At my place they inject some lidocaine into the breast when this happens.

For me, a front closing sports bra and tiny ice packs really helped postop. The bra helps control jiggling and controlls swelling, and the ice helps with swelling and strange sensations.

Dear Friends,

I regret to have to tell you all that my biopsy was positive on both spots for IDC... I'm booked for surgery on June 13th, lumpectomy as the 2 spots are less than 2 cm apart and the surgeon told me she can take both in the same lump...also 3 or 4 nodes, but according to the u/s they are not engorged yet, but the doctor will take them for preventative medicine.  And then 1 month later start chemo followed by radiation.  Apparently I have a lot of hormone receptors and HER2-... so the doctor told me that's good.  My prayers and thoughts are with you all... for B9s... take care xoLisa  Now on to the next chapter in my life.., I'm here for anyone who needs me.

Lisa, that was not what you wanted to hear. I imagine with a BIRADS-5 report, you probably suspected there might be something bad going on in there. Now, at least you know the answer and can move forward. The "treading water" stage is probably the worst of all.

Yes, it is good that your IDC is hormone receptor-positive (ER+) and HER2-negative (HER2-). I know I'm jumping ahead, since you haven't even had your surgery yet...but did your doctor explain why she thought you would need chemo?  I'm just curious. I'm finishing up my chemo tomorrow (last of 4 tx's of Taxotere/Cytoxan). Chemo is "do-able", and the time goes faster than you think it will.

Sorry to hear about your bad news...

Hugs,

Lisa,

So very sorry to hear about the IDC. Fortunately, your masses seem relatively small.  Hopefully, there is no node involvement.  The chemo queens here are troopers, but I am shamefully relieved I don't have to join that club.

Wishing you strength and courage.

Dear Otter and Carol,

Thanks for your words of encouragement and my prayers are also with both of you to keep on keeping well...  My surgeon told me right away the course of treatment and suggested chemo was necessary because of the multifocal (2 spots) were both invasive type and chemo would make sure there is not a spread... Also one of the spots was grade 2.  I like my surgeon a lot, she seemed very positive and very confident that my treatment plan will be successful... and told me I'm going to live a long life... She also told my husband to not start looking for another women just yet!  haha, so am I hopeful and confident too, but know it's going to be tough...really tough.

Take care and best wishes,

Lisa
