I'm so sorry, Patty. It seems like such a long road ahead for you now... you'll be surprised how quickly it will go by and you'll be on the other side. The year of chemo is probably Herceptin..... that doesn't usually have very bad side effects. You'll be able to live your normal life during that. The first chemos can be tough. I thought my very first one was the worst....hopefully it will be the same for you and the next ones will be easier. Have they talked to you about a port? Many of us had them - it helps them to deliver our chemo. Take care and come to these boards. You are not alone! Barb Sachi

Patty, There's a thread that says "just diagnosed". You might find more women that are starting out on this journey there. Barb Sachi

Patty, sorry you had to join us here. I finished Chemo 9/07 and thought it would never end, but it does! And your hair will grow back and soon life returns to a somewhat more normal state. There is a chemotherapy thread here too that might be good for you. It helps to have women going through the same trials and tribulations as you, share tips and hints about treatment or just to vent. I wish you well. Terry

HI Pattypat. I'm a midwestern girl myself. Welcome. I don't know where you live but try calling the American Cancer Society and see if they can refer you to some groups that can help. It's hard to go through this by yourself. There are other cancer survivors around. They will help. You just have to find them. Ask your doctors. Tell them you need help. Good Luck! Susan |
