History.... diagnosed with stage 3c March 2007... large tumor, triple neg.8.5cm, and lymph, skin, & vascular involvement. 6 rounds of TAC, had a complete clinical response to treatment at the time of surgery (modified rt breast masect.), 6 weeks of radiation. First 3month check up ..... cancer found in a lymph node but NOT in the breast.... I'm a patient with MDAnderson and while I do think they are a great at what they do... I'm just not feeling so great about things at this point. Has anyone had any experience like this before or is my luck just that bad?????

Hi MMC, I'm so sorry about your recurrence. I had a lymph node recurrence but my circumstances were different. I was wondering if you had BRCA testing. I have seen others who were BRCA1 and had similar situations to yours. There is emerging evidence that BRCA1 cancers may respond better to platinum chemotherapy than taxols. Not many oncologists treat BRCA cancers differently but there is evidence that there may be good reason for them to do so. I know of two women who had your situation (both BRCA 1 positive) and they are doing great! Feel free to e-mail me at: sueanddan@att.net if you'd like to chat or be connected to them. Hugs and love, Sue |

Hi MMC, Sometimes it is just "bad luck" when dealing with BC. I too was treated with all the normal standards of care yet still had a recurrence 18 mos later. I did my reading and research, got good and angry, and started talking to more Docs. Even at the best centers some Docs are better than others! It may give you piece of mind to talk with some other Docs, get second or third opinions just to be sure it is only "bad luck" and not something that was missed. I know how hard it is to face another battle just when we were starting to believe the worst was behind you. Stay strong and keep fighting! Mary, Good luck this week at MD and I hope you get resolution of what the primary tumor is. Are you are having the MRI guided biopsy this week? Praying for B9 reults again. I know your previous biopsies on these lumps were b9. I also had BCRA testing done and luckily they were negative. I did them because I have two girls and I wanted to make a decision about a bilat. Even though it turned out negative, I am still going for a bilat. Let us know how things go. Dx 2/22/2008, IDC, 6cm+, Stage IIIa, Grade 3, ER-/PR-, HER2- |
