FREE RETREATS FOR CANCER PATIENTS

Harmony Hill Retreat Center in Union, Washington (one hour from Olympia or Bremerton) offers NO-COST cancer retreats for people in any stage of cancer diagnosis and their loved ones.

For more information, please call 360 898-2363

This was in my WomenCARE newsletter (Santa Cruz CA)
I thought I would pass this on to those on bc.org that might be interested. I don't know anything about how it works or what it's like. But I know when we are going through our treatments and sometimes paying out so much money for our medical care, that the thought of a vacation or get away never even crosses our minds--and if it does, it's too expensive to consider.

I hope that if anyone pursues this, they will post on here what the experience is like.

I have been a member of WomenCARE for 4 years, and everything in their newsletter has been above board. I know they would not post this if it wasn't for real. They help women with all types of cancer.

PS: If you think I should post this under another topic, please let me know. I had a hard time deciding what I should do.

Hi, grace!

Golfer Carol just recently posted about her experience at one of these retreats on the "Help Me Get Through Treatment" board on the bottom of the 7th page of the "Washington Ladies/Men??" thread. It sounded quite positive. Hopefully this link will work Laughing:

Grace, thanks for mentioning the newsletter and that it comes from Santa Cruz.  I looked up WomanCARE since my husband and I will be moving near Santa Cruz this summer, and I was excited to see that they have a lot of resources!  I really like the cancer wellness program where I live, and I was hoping to find something similar out there.

Also, I will be visiting my son on May 10, and I saw that the Human Race is taking place then - I signed up on the WomanCARE page, so how fun is that?  I get to see more of the area and help raise a bit of money at the same time!

Hi Nancy,
Wow, so glad you found the two sites. I'm signed up for the Human Race also. I won't be running, but will be walking for Lymphedema Support Fund. Since diagnosed with LE, I have been working to raise money for patients who don't have funds or insurance to cover the cost of their equipment. There is a group of us walking together that day. I'm on the site with my own web page for donations. Did you sign up that way too?

Where will you be moving to in Santa Cruz area? PM me if you want to meet when you get here. I'm in Felton.

There's also another wonderful resource center in SC. At Dominican Hospital is the Katz Cancer Resource Center. They have a great library, staff and have free yoga classes twice a month.

Be happy to "show you around the area" if you haven't been here much before you move.

the walk on West Cliff is beautiful. Also, I'm always up for a walk with a partner if you like to walk that way.

Nice to have you join the "neighborhood."
