Well, I had a relatively small incision, mabye 5 inches, and didn't loose much blood. But, my white count was low so I was tired.

As to driving, I believe it was a good two to three weeks before they allowed me to do so. I was off strong pain meds by 5 days or so, then just ibuprofen or tylenol. But you want to make sure you don't have a lot of incision pain with leg movement etc...

Good luck to you if it's coming up, and if ti's done, how are you doing?

Best,
Tender

As I recall, my doc told me not to drive for at least two weeks. After that, I didn't have any problems, though the area was still tender.  I felt fully recovered at about four weeks, but from what I can tell, it really varies. I had the surgery when I was 48. My mom had the same surgery in her seventies and recovered faster than me!

Try looking at hystersisters.com.  There is alot of good information there and forums where you can ask questions.

I don't remember exactly when I started driving, but started rads after 4 weeks and at that time I drove myself over 200 miles everyday.

I had TAH/BSO 3 years ago.  They said no driving for 3 weeks.  I didn't even go out as a passenger for about 2 weeks (docotr visit) a I felt very weak and shaky. Be sure to use a pillow in between you and the seatbelt for comfort and protection--I used it for several weeks. Feel free to PM me if you'd like with other questions.

I just went through that in Feb.  My gyn oncol  told me I could drive as soon as I was off pain meds, which was only about 5 days.  I went home the day after surgery and returned to work the 3rd week on a part time basis as I was still tired.  I hope your procedure goes smoothly and quickly!!!!

Hi Flash,

Great that you're recuperating well. I was off pain meds on day 5 and back to work on day 10. I guess every person is different, but I do believe the fact I had a spinal with sedation rather than general anesthesia helped me recuperate more quickly.

Keep getting well!

Hugs,

Annie
