Today i went in for my second opinion following mastectomy. i thought i was High grade DCIS, with microinvasion, stage 1, no nodes, her2+,
ER PR-. The doc today informed me that Kaiser pathologist missed the cancer in my node. My husband and I were shocked. Now I am going from no follow up to chemo and herceptin. I'm very shaken. I don't think I will have more nodes out- i will let the chemo do it's work there. That's what the doc suggested. So now I am stage 2 and trying to get someone at my HMO to see me to get the ball rolling.

How many nodes were removed during your surgery? Did they do a Sentinel lymph node disection? What the size of the tumor? So sorry you are dealing with all this. I too wish there were more to say. :( wishiwere

They did a sentinel node (one) sent it to path and I was told it was clear. The second opinion pathologist looked at the slides and found a micromet. I go back to the surgeon tomorrow to get my mastectomy drain out, finally and i am sure she will want to remove the rest of the nodes but I am not going to do it. The micromet in the node was 4mm which is considered small-2mm being the size where it becomes a met. Thanks for the support. I have to figure out how to put the signature dx like you all have... |

Hi magentagirl: So sorry that your diagnosis changed - I went from lumpectomy to mastectomy and it was a real kick in the butt. To post your signature dx, go to your log in page (or click on your name) to My Home, click on the My Profile tab, fill in the info, and click on the box that makes it your signature. I started Taxol/Carboplatin/Herceptin on April 2, and am doing fine. Other than the hair loss, I've had few side effects and am working 2 of the 3 weeks each cycle. When you find out your treatment plan, join a group on the Chemotherapy thread. There's also lots of good info about Herceptin on the Her2+ thread. Best wishes to you - Sue Dx 1/15/2008, IDC, 2cm, Stage IIa, Grade 3, 0/3 nodes, ER-/PR-, HER2+ |
