Hi, Rakesha - and welcome. Sorry you had to find us, but glad you did.

How are your mom and aunt doing? I'm sure it must be tough to watch them fight their battle, but bless your heart!

Have you or anyone in your family had genetic testing? I did - as have a few others here - but tested negative, although they think a mutation that hasn't yet been named may be the culprit.

All the best to you and your family! Hope to hear from you again soon.

Hello Ladies,

My name is Crystal and I am 35

My mother is 53 and was diagnosed with Stage 4 bc with mets to liver in December 2005 and recently in April of this year it spread to her bone. She is the only family member we know to have breast cancer although she is stage 4 she still continues to work. She is my breast friend and I have been my her side through all of this and will continue to be there for her. Her name is Jacquelyn and she is such a fighter in all of this. I hate this disease. I am glad I have you ladies to talk to.

Welcome, Crystal. Sorry you had to find us, but glad you did. Sorry to hear about your mom, but this is a wonderful site full of wonderful people who are so caring and willing to share. If you post anywhere, someone will answer you/offer a hearty hello. It truly is a wonderful community.

The "African Americans w/BC" section was started after one of our sisters posted in a panic about the bad survival rate statistics for Black women. The amount of support and information she got from the women here was amazing. We asked to have it moved from where it was because of the fear that the great info would have been missed had it remained where it was...

Please feel free to send me a private message if you want to chat. Big hugs to your mom!

Welcome Sharon! We were diagnosed almost three years apart to the day. Hoping your treatment is going well : - )

Linda, have you thought about testing for BRCA? There are only two genes they look for: BRCA1 and BRCA2, but there are more than an handful of Black women here who tested negative for those genes, but had some other gene variant of "unknown significance." Not sure how much research is going on to find out what the heck that means, but it might be good information to know - especially for your daughters and granddaughters.

THIS INFORMATION IS HELPFUL AND I WILL ASK MY DR.  MY DAUGHTERS ARE HAVING MAMMOGRAMS DONE ALREADY AND KNOW MORE THAN ANYTHING, TO DO THEIR OWN MONTHLY EXAMS, AND THIS GOES TO ALL OF THE WOMEN WE KNOW OUT THERE--AS MY LUMP DID NOT SHOW UP ON THE MAMMOGRAM--I FOUND IT-WE JUST HAVE TO HELP OUR SELVES IN ALL THAT WE CAN.

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INFO!!!
