I just wanted to pop in and let you know that I am going to a bridal shower tomorrow for my SIL's sister. She is getting married in April to a man she met on E-Harmony.
They are absolutely made for one another. So I guess there are on-line sites that really do work!
I don't know what makes that one different from the others but I have another friend who also met her SO on E-Harmony last year and they, too, are talking about marriage.
Just thought I would pass it along....
love,
g

Huh. Well, good for them! (seriously) I have found eharmony to be a big waste of time for me. Jaybird

Content. Most days I am, too. I like using my 'boy toys' as men my age just seem to be so f**ked-up. All I want is good sex, and getting it regularly would be a bonus! Pics will come soon, I promise. (gotta be careful about what I post, I just might e-mail them) Jaybird

I met a wonderful man on e-harmony... or maybe I should say I "met" him. We never met face to face. We emailed and phoned because he lives on the other side of the country. Although we never met, I felt that he and I had a lot of compability that could have come to something had we been geographically closer. On-line sites are kinda a crapshoot though. |

Well, thanks for the tip. It sounds as though eHarmony is doing what it intends....getting folks hitched up. Now I'll be sure to steer clear! I met my boyfriend through match.com -- sort of. We started corresponding and soon realized that we were neighbors, literally in the same condo complex. I'm not sure if we would have ended up dating if this hadn't been the case. I checked out eHarmony at some point, but since I was still separated, not divorced, they wouldn't let me join. Which was ok with me ; I completed their profile but it didn't feel like an accurate description of me at all. There are a lot of multiple choice questions and I usually wanted to put "none of the above" but this wasn't an option. (Marin, I have a political issue w/ them as well but I wouldn't try to dissuade anyone else from using them.) But if it works for some people, that's great! I have two friends who met their significant others through PlentyofFish, too. Lauren Dx 12/20/2007, IDC, 1cm, Stage II, Grade 2, 1/11 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- |

Wow, I didn't know they were politically affiliated. The couple are democrats. I never did eharmony because I heard that THEY pick out your mate for you. I am too much of a control freak to have some computer pick out my "soul mate" LOL! I haven't had much luck with the match because it seems that only married men are members here on LI! nosurrenderbreastcancerhelp.com

then again, i haven't done too well choosing for myself...so, who knows?!!? i was looking into sites for singles with cancer over the weekend. not much out there. i just don't think it's fair of me (being stage IV, and in treatment indefinitely) to drag someone else into this crazy life of mine. not to mention i have NO sex drive. most men want sex. e-harmony works great for some. just like other online dating sites, i think you get out of it what you put into it. congrats to the happy couple! On Feb 18th, Ann posted this message with links to online dating (to be known as "OLD") sites "specializing" in cancer folks: There is a dating site called Prescription4Love that lets you list your own condition(s), and condition(s) of a potential partner. Cancer is one of the conditions: http://prescription4love.com/index.cfm I think it has more action in some parts of the country than others. I myself have been looking for a site that deals with specific impairment -- like matching up vaginal prolapse (me) with post-prostate cancer (he) -- haven't found quite that level of specificity! Just googling online dating cancer, I found: Haven't tried a search yet. Their welcome statement says: "C is for Cupid is a new online dating service for people whose lives have been affected by cancer. Founded by survivors, our goal is to provide a comfortable and fun environment for our members to connect with compatible singles and friends. So if you're ready for romance, a special relationship, or just want to meet new friends who can 'relate,' register with us and have a look around." Ann...I hope you don't mind my copying & pasting you entry? If you do, let me know and I'll delete it! As for my political issues with eHarmony, you can get a vague clue if you watch ads for chemistry.com where they refer to characteristics they claim eHarmony rejects people on, one of them being homosexuality. It seems that they cater to straight Christians, so if that describes you AND you don't mind the inferred prejudice or exclusivity, the site is probably fine. I'm straight and Christian, but I try not to support organizations that discriminate based on traits like religion and sexual preference. I can't even swear that that's the case with eHarmony, but that IS the rumor! ~Marin "Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim." ~Nora Ephron

hi, i've tried eharmony, match.com, nerve.com, and found no one, except men that were 10 years older. my self esteem is at the lowest point ever, i've put on 25pds since being dx. i can barely look at myself, so how does one get past this and meet someone, i feel like i'm going to be single the rest of my life. i'm also unemployed at the moment, which is making matters worse, i feel so lonely. if anyone in nyc would like to talk email me. bluesky Dx 10/25/2006, IDC, 2cm, Stage IIIa, Grade 3, 4/18 nodes, ER+/PR-, HER2+ |
