I am a 2x TNBC survivor. 1st diagnosis right breast 32 yrs stage 2 grade 3; 2nd diagnosis - 2nd primary tumor left breast 37 stage 1 grade 3. I am now 44 years old. to check for nodule progress. A recent CT scan (trip to ER for unrelated illness) showed a 10 mm nodule on right lung, which was not there a few years ago. I realized that lung nodules are common. Normal protocol for non-breast cancer patients is to have to patient undergo a new CT scan after 3-6 months. I will see oncologist this week (referred to him by ER doc). I prefer to request an immediate biopsy. I would like to know if, in your experience, how likely the doctor is to honor my request, considering my history or if it is more likely he will suggest that I wait. Thank you in advance

Not sure how likely they are to honor the request; varies doc to doc. Do keep us posted though.

Hi Kabeee- Thank you. I ended up going back to hospital to pick up report. The radiologist suggested (on the report) that the oncologist order a PET scan. At least this is a starting place.

Acceptinglife, I'm so very sorry that you must deal with the anxiety of waiting for this test result. I know lung nodules aren't uncommon. Two were discovered in my baseline CT before I started chemo and the only lung / breathing-related problem I'd had in the prior 30 years was a single case of bronchitis. Still, our minds immediately and understandably go to a scary place, especially in your case where you've already faced TNBC twice. I hope that you get good news about your test.

I had a lung nodule that went away on it's own in my 3 month follow up scan.

As you would know the waiting for results is the hardest part. All the best on your biopsy results.

Thank you for your response. I should have been clearer. The nodule is clear (after PET CT), it is a left axilla lymph node under my arm (actually 2) they are concerned about now picked up with the PET CT). So, yes, now I wait.

Thank you for the clarification, Acceptinglife. Were both worrisome nodes removed? Again, good luck with your pathology report.

No. They only did a CORE biopsy of one of them. The ultrasound reports says the following:

A lymph node in the left axilla measures 1.3 cm with cortical

thickness up to 4 mm. The hilum is questionably eccentric. There is

an adjacent lymph node with and indistinct hilum that measures 1.4

cm. Cortical thickening is approximated to be 1.4 mm.

Got it, Acceptinglife. My initial diagnosis was based on a core needle biopsy. I had a sentinel node biopsy of three nodes with dye injected in conjunction with my first lumpectomy surgery. Please keep us posted.
