I experienced chemo induced menopause at age 39.  For seven years I have suffered intense debilitating night sweats (drenching clothes and sometimes sheets continually) and insomnia.  I have done everything I know to reduce them but can't take anything estrogenic due to ER+ cancer.  Can anyone tell me if they have suffered this long and then found relief of the drenching?  Docs can't give me any sense as to whether this will ever end.  I've felt quite debilitated for 7 years now and wonder what the future holds...any hope or only torture?

Hi Sal - Night sweats are exhausting. Are you on tamoxifen & if so are you also on effexor? I'm guessing that you must have tried it since this has been going on so long.

I suffered like that until my doctor/oncologist recommended effexcor. I took 37.5 mg. Its actually an antidepressant but most find it helps and alleviates hot flashes and the night sweats. Your oncologist will know about this good side effect.  Good note as well, I also lost about 5lbs on it.

I agree with Effexor I had to increase to 75mg ER when put on tamoxifen & sweats got worse, told dr. I had hot flashes on steroids. We also added neurontin , started at 100mg at bed time to help sleep w/out sweating. 200mg has helped. Good luck. Those cooling wipes help too.

Have you looked into Chinese medicine treatment? It approaches symptoms differently and is successfully used to mitigate hormonal imbalances.
