I found this article today.

It appears that the literature indicates that post menopausal women need a Vit D level over 75 to improve prevention of falls and fractures.

A more mainstream theory is that levels below 50 nmol/L lead to increased bone turnover and/or parathyroid hormone (PTH). There is a possibility that levels above 75 nmol/L may contribute to fewer falls and fractures.

Getting Vit D from sunlight is a lovely idea if you live year round in a warm climate. Not going to do this today with cloud cover and 25 degree weather.

Bottom line: Sunlight exposure of 10 minutes during the peak UVB exposure time, which occurs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for most of the U.S., in a nonobese individual, with a T-shirt and shorts on, will yield 3,000 IU of vitamin D for the majority of people.

No sunlight yesterday,, and it's looking like no sunlight today either.   The doctors in my area seem to be paying more attention to the Vit D issue as many of the older folks I see in the hospital are on it at home.
