I had a bilateral mastectomy with bilateral SLD (3 on each side) in April. I'll be 3 months out on July 9th and I feel like my left arm pain is getting worse. I did the exercises for a bit, but felt like my daily life was giving my arm enough exercise. I'm starting to wonder if something is wrong, or if I am just experiencing pain as I try and rebuild the muscles and range of motion. The pain is in my bicep and tricep, sometimes includes my shoulder. It's very painful to raise my arm and it's very weak. It isn't swollen, so I don't think it's lymphedema. Have any of you guys had the same? How long before it's back to normal? Thanks in advance! :)

hi balance 101,

I didn’t have a mx but I did have a partial mx with reconstruction. My suggestion would be to find a lymphodema specialist (massage/ physical therapist), I didn’t have the lymphodema, but I did have banding down my arm to the elbow. (I guess scar tissue and the lymph nodes trying to find a new normal).

They showed me special exercises and measured the arm for a base line just in case I do have problems down the road. At the end (best part)I got massage on the shoulder and arm area.

I didn’t have te’s but I have heard that they can sometimes cause pain. I am 6 months out from surgery and still have twinges and sometime pain depending on what I’m doing with my arm. Luckily (I didn’t see listed) you didn’t have radiation, which can cause problems also down the road.

Hope this helps

Thanks so much for your response, Billb464. I didn't have radiation. I'm thinking if this doesn't get better over the weekend I'll make an appointment and get this figured out.

Do I need to worry about mets if my lymph nodes were clear?

I realized my breast cancer was on the right and this is the left, so it's probably not cancer. My symptoms sound most like bursitis. Will get it checked out.

Hope all is well with your arm pain! Did you get it checked out?

You asked about Mets, I don’t think any of us can answer that question. You see so many different things that happen. All we can do is live a healthy lifestyle and pray that we don’t have to face that in the future:

Hi! No, not yet. My Breast Care Center referred me to a place that never called me, so I called them and they aren't taking any new patients. I called them back and asked for another referaal. Still waiting, still can't left my arm. It's painful to lift it enough to put deodorant on. Will let you know what I find out!
