so I have microinvasive DCIS with isolated tumor cells in my sentinel lymph node. There isn’t enough invasive cancer to test to see its HER2 status or oncotype DX. This is very frustrating as my oncologist is leaning to treat me for worst case scenario. He wants to suppress or remove my ovaries plus chemo.

My question is since he can’t test the invasive cancer then can it still be assumed that the ER PR status is the same? The DCIS is both positive for ER and PR. I would hate to suppress my ovaries if the mutated cancer no longer was ER positive. I can’t find much research on this.

I'm not sure if my case was similar to yours, but I had both IDC and DCIS. My IDC was ER-/PR-/Her2+ and my DCIS was ER+(25%)/PR-. So I guess it is possible that your invasive cancer isn't the same as your DCIS. When I was first dx, my MO indicated that I may have hormone treatment after I finish chemo/surgery. But given my health history (osteopenia, blood clot, post-menopausal) she decided that the SEs would outweigh the benefits in my case. (Which was fine with me.) I think it is standard to treat DCIS with hormone treatment.

Dx'd at age 56. Tumor found by my annual mammogram -- cancer can grow fast! Dx 10/6/2016, IDC, Left, 2cm, Grade 2, 0/1 nodes, ER-/PR-, HER2+ (IHC) Dx 10/6/2016, DCIS, Left, Stage 0, ER+/PR- Targeted Therapy 11/2/2016 Herceptin (trastuzumab) Chemotherapy 11/2/2016 Carboplatin (Paraplatin), Taxotere (docetaxel) Targeted Therapy 11/2/2016 Perjeta (pertuzumab) Surgery 3/27/2017 Lymph node removal: Sentinel; Mastectomy: Left
