so I found out may 20 that I have triple negative grade 2 idc when I went to see surgeon she said the lump appears to be bigger then the middle where they took the biopsy. I have a meeting with a team on Tuesday to discuss options and then mri because she said it might be dcis surrounding the idc. I'm just wondering why it would matter if I'm getting a mas? And why they would do chemo first? I've been reading the forum but haven't found anything to answer this. Thank you!

I can't answer all of your questions, but I was told I may need chemo first to shrink the size of the tumor to ensure they get clear margins during surgery. Based on my tumor size I chose masectomy which eliminated the need for chemo first. But I am still learning on the journey. I think it has a lot to do with location and testing the tumors response to chemo as well. Once they did my MRI, the surgeon was more confident she could get clear margins with my masectomy.

So, you have Er-, PR- & HER2- IDC. You can look at the NCCN guidelines:

It recommends neoadjuvant chemotherapy for almost all triple negative cancer.

Dx 11/15/2019, IDC: Cribriform, Right, <1cm, Stage IA, Grade 2, 0/2 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- (FISH)
