Thank you Olma61. Very interesting. I am on Zometa myself.

I have detailed my journey with osteonecrosis in many of these Stage 4 threads. Please go to "Search" and enter my user name "amontro", and you can read my ongoing horror stories.

My suggestion when you are on Zometa-like meds, is to be very vigilant. Many dentists and surgeons are unaware of what can happen with this treatment.

Mine started two years after I was taking Zometa (2010) and it started out with an ulcer on the roof of the mouth with the bone exposed (indicated in the article).

I developed osteonecrosis years later and dental professionals didn't know how to treat it. I can only explain now that my rear lower jaw started falling apart (also in the article).

An easy way to explain it is that the Zometa (or whatever) builds additional "bones" around each tooth to protect them. When going off Zometa, these barriers break down and the "extra" bones fall out of the mouth piece by piece, through the gums, and it's a long tedious process. I am still under care and I can feel more bones breaking through.

My worst case scenarios: 1) the roof of my mouth became detached and hung down. I was that way for a year. 2) I suffered from infection and pain in my jaw for over a year straight. 3) on two separate occasions I've had a piece of a bone come through the soft tissue of the roof of my mouth. At first I thought a tooth was growing, but each time it was a bone poking through.

I had a brain scan a few months ago to rule out any bones rattling around in my head. There was nothing there. LOL!

Please take care. Lots of love, Anna (amontro)
