hi everyone,

So my eldest works retail in a spot where cases are high and today she got an email that a coworker tested positive and it had info about last day worked ect - with my daughter. My daughter came down with a 4 hour fever last weekend and as suddenly as it came on, it was gone. She is now getting tested Tuesday - earliest date at testing site locally. It says results will be 4-6 days.

So I have a really tiny cough this week, which I thought was from radiation- last week was week 1 of hypofractionated schedule. Last night I went to bed at 7:30 and I’m seriously wanting bed now - 6pm but have to wait for my little one to be ready. Since Thursday I have been really exhausted, but again I thought must be radiation.

I don’t know if I’m getting carried away with my worries, but now I don’t know what to do about radiation this week..... I can also make an appointment to be tested on Tuesday. Then will have to wait 4-6 days for results. So what do I do about radiation? And does radiation make it harder for me to fight covid?

I’d let your radiation team know that you may be been exposed. They’ll probably want to test you for your safety, theirs and other patients. If they delay treatment for test results, they can add a couple days to the end.

I agree with illimae that you should let your radiation team know you may have been exposed and also that you do have symptoms which may or may not be related to covid.

regarding your immune system, according to BCO, regular radiation to breast & axilla should not affect your ability to fight a virus https://www.breastcancer.org/tips/immune/cancer/ra...

Chances are your cancer center can test you right away and give you your results much quicker than the local testing site your daughter is going to. I have to get a routine covid test at my cancer center every twelve weeks before my scheduled ERCP procedures. The results are ready the next day.

thank you everyone for the input. I spoke with my RO yesterday and he does not want me to take a break in treatment for possible exposure. He said the quarantined period for possible exposure is 10 days and the contact was last made 10 days ago. My daughter has her text and I think I will see about a fast test somewhere, though my RO didn’t suggest I also get tested. He did bring up wearing masks, which I always do, and I will wear my kn95s to Radiation treatments and be vigilant as always - hand sanitizer ect. He also said it’s fine to take extra vit c and zinc. The symptoms I have could be anything and not necessarily Covid or from Radiation. The cough is like 4little ones a day.
